I've seen these before, my first thought on hearing the Yamanote one was "what an annoying way to save money, where's some chewing gum to stuff in the speaker".

I notice the pictures show a 500 yen coin, I wonder if our larger coins like the 20 and 50 cent pieces would fit?

we toyed with the idea it might be fun to have one of these at shows for kids to drop coins in, but was not sure what us coins would work. also my experience with audio loops like this in exhibits is that after hearing it about 20 times in a day you will want to step on it...

have thought about doing a more quiet version with our series 0 tin donation box by using one of the little digital audio boards i have and a micro switch across the slot opening.
