I have been working out a timetable for a day railfanning the Sangi Railway but have run into a possible snag.
Is my translation of this timetable
http://www.sangirail.co.jp/contents/jikoku/sanzanteijikoku/23.10sd.pdf
on the railway's website correct in that buses have temporarily replaced trains on a section of the line between Hobo and Umedoi due to a damaged bridge over the Asake River? Hyperdia seems to indicate the same thing
http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=KINTETSUTOMIDA&arv_node=NISHIFUJIWARA&via_node01=&via_node02=&via_node03=&year=2011&month=11&day=06&hour=07&minute=26&search_type=0&search_way=&transtime=undefined&sort=0&max_route=5&ship=off&lmlimit=null&search_target=route&facility=reserved&sum_target=7
If so, the freight trains that would be the main attraction may not be running either. Does anyone know more?

Yes, it looks like substitute bus service will be in effect until the middle of November. Hopefully the bridge will be repaired more quickly, as the pressure to resume freight shipments is likely a big factor.

I thought so. I guess I'll see what happens when I get there. A bonus to railfanning trips in Japan is that there is always plenty of alternatives if plan 'A' doesn't work out, if normal operations haven't resumed I'll go to plan 'B' or 'C'.

I can't see any trains crossing that for a while. I think I'll promote plan 'B' to plan 'A'

Well, you could take a hover train over a non-hover bridge!?
