Just wondering as the Byun-Byun site is gone, what is the expected service life on the 300's set to expire? I know some of the earlier 300's were replaced by N700's, but have yet to see anything replacing the rest of the fleet.

I think it is dependent on the rate of new N700 types entering service, and the subsequent cascading of 700 types.  Retirement began in 2007 of one trainset, then 8 in 2008, and 11 in 2009.  That leaves 50 sets still in service.  The 300 series is still an important type in Kodama and Hikari service on the Tokaido Shinkansen line.

Yeah, I recalled that they took some sets out of service a few years back. Going to be horrible to only see 700's and N700's only on the JR West and JR Central. They all look the same, white with a blue stripe. I was just hoping maybe a 700 series killer was on the way like a 900 series.

The 700 entered service from 1999 to 2006. You won't see a 900 Series for a very long time.
