My experiences with Mandarake have taught me that in Japan 'used' has a much different context. I bought a figure once that had 'severe box damage' and had 'paint damage'. Needless to say I paid close to $75 less than normal and the 'severe' damage was a slightly crushed corner and the paint damage was a small inconspicuous chip.

I buy most of my stuff used when I'm in Japan. Basically, someone breathed onto the box means 25% off.

A good example was that Greenmax tie-tamper I bought at Popondetta this winter. Was sold @ 60% off as "does not run". The only problem was that the motor came lose. I opened the model, clipped the motor back between the plastic clamps and done.

Used items generally rule from Japan. Only once did I get a "Grade A" condition item that turned out not to be so "Grade A" condition (engine wise), and one time I got a totally different model than the one I ordered/was on the pictures. Which was bizarre.

At least it beats the "Brand NEW" description on German websites, where items turn out to be plain broken. I've come across this several times. Such a hassle to report dishonorable sales people...

I've just had a run of 2nd hand purchases, all from the same supplier, described (in their terms) as "Grade B", all of which are 5~15 years old but look like they've just come off the shop shelf, even the cardboard cases were unblemished. One needed a dab of oil on the motor bearings, and with another one, an end car body wasn't quite mounted properly, otherwise perfect.

I'm not a big fan of the 211 series, but they're essential for contemporary Chuo Line operations west of Tachikawa.

Me neither, but from time to time, the 211 sort of appeals to me... Like especially more so now that the 211 series are running on the Ryomo line...

Now that means it's time to buy six more 211-series sets!

And he probably will 👍👍😂😂😂😂

Haha Nope I wouldn't~  🙂  It's not exactly very cheap for a Kato 211 series... I might wanna save up for something else...

I don't usually have more than one set of a certain train set... but buses, that's another story ~  😛

All change on the Chuo line local services west of Tokyo, with a 211 series and (soon to be withdrawn) 115 series (both Kato) passing at the mouth of one of the many tunnels along the line, probably sometime in early 2014.

My KATO KRT type 6006 is scheduled for delivery today (and the generic 2 car set for that railway tomorrow)!  The 700T is one of those Unobtainium right now.

I have a sudden liking to the 211series just before you posted this picture... and i'm glad I have gotten lucky with yahoo auctions and gotten for myself a Kato 4-car set ! (In Tokaido colour) ~

Cant wait for it to come and maybe even couple with the 313s!

I recently found myself in that conundrum where I decided to expand my JR Tokai fleet from Iida-sen stock and a couple of contemporary KiHa's to more Tokaido Honsen based stock. I saw how Greenmax are doing a rerun of the 211-5000 Series LL units and decided to preorder the powered 3 car set, that then lead me to put a preorder on the 3 car add on set as well as ordering a Tomix 313-2300 Series Basic and Add On sets to make a typical 7 car train that runs along the line around Toyohashi, let's just say it's not going to cheap.

The 700T looks amazing. I'm feeling a bit of non-buyer's remorse.

Another small parcel with my pre-orders dropped off from Ami...

Man, that Kyoto-Nara is really sweet looking! I am glad to have bought this train! A much needed commuter train for my Kintetsu fleet!

Also, GreenMax has up their game recently, added a plastic strip to wrap the bookcase and the sleeve together (so that the sleeve doesn't drop off), and including as much as 3 decal sheets! Went to work straight away attaching the required parts on the roof (antenna, air-conditioners and what seems to look like a TV antenna of some sorts, being in a square) and the decals, and I must say, they look even better then!

I just placed my first order in a while... books primarily, but threw in some Greenmax semaphores, a Tomix Kiha16 trailer, and a Sankei bus shelter... the latter mostly to get a first hand look at the Sankei stuff, there's a few larger kits that have caught my eye.

Haven't been able to devote much time to modelling so I've been getting my J-Train fix playing OpenTTD with Japanese train and city mods 😄

I keep buying locomotives but nothing for them to pull... Here an old (judging by the packaging ca. 1984 ~ 1987) Kato "Salon Express Tokyo" set at a commendably low price in good condition, and it's a nice model too:

I got them a few days ago, but I forgot to post!  The new Kato 485 200 Midori/Kamome arrived in only a few days, as DHL for the set was about the same price as SAL.

And the other ends, I still have to install the working couplers on for the end cars to allow connected running.

Oh, is that painted and ballasted track?

Yep, I used kato unitrack ballasted with the kato ballast.   The whole thing is then airbrushed with a diluted 50/50 mix of tamiya brown and white.  I'm still experimenting but this seems to do a reasonable job at blending the track into the finished scenery.

A small parcel dropped off from HS:

Nothing much, just my pre-ordered motor chassis for the E235 (I just realised it didn't came with power bogies... but oh well), and a couple of couplers, and that cute Kumamon train that is sold out everywhere else... Interesting LED direction marker that will let me know where the direction of flow is so I do not drive the train the wrong way!  🙂

Don't you love how HS wrap up all your items?  🙂

And my first parcel from Zen Market! Now that is good service, Zen Market actually re-packs your items to save you space! Very nice indeed, and probably cost me FAR lesser than what I will pay for shipping if it was ordered through Buyee!

Finally got my hands on the Tobu special bus set! Lovely set, and I will only blame myself for not getting it being such a bus fan! Grabbed a lot of vending machines too since they were cheap and yeah one can find vending machines everywhere in Japan ~~   😛

Why do you need a motor for a E235 set?  Did yours die and buying the motor unit was cheaper than return post for warrenty claim?

I often buy motor chassis as spares, for worrying the motor dies on me and I'm not able to secure spares for them anymore...

Especially more so for those motors that can be swapped around sets, like 209 or 231 or 233 motors since there are so many variants of them but they basically use the same motor.

Beautiful set! I love the 8000 series too... Just missed this one ~ Great that it already came with TN couplers at the cabs!
