That black MRC Tech II is a great product, I own three!

I have an ancient Tech IV. It's like a II, but has two control knobs. Glorious bastard, it is and works fantastically .

I really shouldn't have, but I ordered various couplers and accessories to experiment with. I was doing a bit more research into the Peho current conducting magnetic couplers, and stumbled upon Krois current conducting couplers. Then I noticed Krois also has digitally controlled couplers for N-scale, which is of course interesting for some shunting and for example terminal stations where the locos can decouple and go into service and such.

Now, Peho has it's own store, as does Krois, but they charge quite a bit for shipping outside Germany (Peho) and Austria (Krois), but then I found a place in Germany that sells both brands, so I only need to pay crazy shipping once.. Decided to give it a go, so I ordered some 2 and 4 pole current conducting couplers from both Peho and Krois, a digital coupler from Krois, a set of 10 couplers that clip together meant for static consists, as well as a set of tools to install brass cups in the bogies of coaches, to sort of create the power pickup idea that Japanese brands already use.

Should hopefully get it sometime next week, should be interesting to experiment with.

Can you post links for this stuff in the electrical threads?

A couple of E231-500 cars from the junk piles of Akihabara to flesh out my 4-car basic set:

kato E231-500 (Yamanote Line) - intermediate cars by Rail Squid, on Flickr

They even came with passengers, a couple seem to be drunk and have fallen over (well it is Friday evening) but they do even seem to be reasonable quality ones (i.e. not your cheap 100-pack Ebay hoi-polloi in garish clothing).

those cheap 100 packs are really quite nice if you dont mind repainting. if you dont like repainting, but the unpainted and paint them, they have nice detail and can look really nice if you put some effort in to them. Its what I do for passengers

Wow, nice!

Gonna need a few more LEDs for that lot. These are definitely on my list once I get my self in gear with a layout. Super easy platform lighting.

Finally caved in and got an E5 "Hayabusa" and an E6 "Komachi" and my lame excuse is that I rode the entire route of the Tohoku / Hokkaido and Akita Shinkansen again courtesy of Nariichi.

Great to find someone that got the latest E5.

what do you think of the lights? Could you make a picture? The original E5 had terrible front and rear lights. The white light was one giant blob, and the red ones are invisible. Are the ones on the new release any better?

Is that only the case with the Tomix one? For some reason, the E5 and E6 are two of the few Kato shinkansen I bought, and I never noticed the lights on them being bad.

I have owned both TOMIX and KATO versions. The TOMIX version was inferior in my opinion in pretty much every aspect, especially the lights. The lights on the KATO version are exactly what they should be, and the TOMIX version are really bad in comparison.

Packing today to return home tomorrow.  As we rode the E7’s a few times on this trip that is what I bought for myself this time along with a few other smaller items that I “needed” for some projects.

Yesterday I received a small parcel from MTP, I hadn’t got round to posting it as I have already been flat out working on it.

I have no reference, I think they're okay.  The red lights are hard to see unless you're looking at it at the right angle.

Thanks for the pictures. It's unchanged, I see. The KATO white lights you can see the actual different lightbulbs, and the red lights you can see from many more angles, not just straight up.

Well done Junior! The E5 and E6 are one of my favourite Shinkansens! (amongst many others haha)

A little parcel from Ami, bringing me the LONG awaited Kiha-110 iiyama line 4-seasons livery version, along with a nice Kiha-40 Gono line that was on sale and I just had to get it...

That's quite nice- I was actually eyeing up the same set this weekend- decided to fill in other 100/110 series models though instead.

Wish there was an model of the High Rail 1375...

My wife and kids wanted some Amiibo’s and a Nendoroid from Hobby Search so I took advantage of the situation and picked up some parts for my Otsusen layout, also one can never have too many containers.
