An Interesting Question......

This was asked of me not long ago......but is something i thought interesting, and worth pondering....

"If you had to give up all your Japanese trains, but one...and that one had to reflect who you are....which train would you keep, and why?"

After considerable thought my answer was "Dr Yellow...because Dr Yellow helps make sure things are good for every other train, and i work in a helping profession (I work with developmentally disabled adults) and i try to help make sure things are good for my residents..."

What would your answer be?

Cassiopeia.  Because... well, look at it.  The thing has presence.  :P

I'm not allowing this question in any household I live in.

Probably the doreamon train as its fun, always makes me smile. Classic train as well.

Although the greenmax blue liner zoo/aquarium train is a close second.

Nice question! Never thought of that... But definitely not allowing it to happen.

Mine will be the.... 500 series. It was this train that tipped me over the most, and started this expensive hobby. It screams speed with its daring nose design, and it IS fast. Relation to my work, I'm working as a specialist contractor, so speed is of the essence so I think that's related? It also kinda reflects what we do in the sense that we dare to be different than others to achieve the speed we need ~

The beautiful streamline is still by far in my opinion my favourite and most unique train in the world. So a model of this train has to be kept for safe-keeping ~~

I would keep the Orient Express (10-561 and 10-562) with the Kato 2016-2 Mikado and the 3038-1 Electric locomotives. Simply a stunning train.

"Twilight Express" is my favorite, because it takes a long trip and face both darkness and light, like a real life

Kato Yamanote E231-500

Not a fast train but serves a lots of people, has to be punctual, precize (stops at the right places) and run on his own track(?) and everybody would miss if it won't be.

Beside of these this is one of those 3 types of trains on which I travelled in Japan.

It's an interesting question indeed. Though I suspect most people will pick their favorite set, this, like for example our taste in music, art etc, also provides an insight into someones personality, as well as their thought process (either sub-consciously or consciously).

I personally found it a hard choice to make, choosing between one of my 0系 sets, one of my 200系 sets, one of my 100系 sets (I would consider those 3 trains my favorite trains ever built, especially the 200系 and 0系 (no surprises here I guess...)) or even one of my E2系 sets (one of the more underrated series in my opinion).

In the end I went for the 200系 and after careful consideration, the Tomix renewalled K formation in particular, as I think it reflects who I am best; the 200系 was quiet, not too flashy and always went into the opposite direction most people went. Not too fast not too slow, refined though somewhat clumsy looking from certain angles. Not too modern, nor old fashioned the 200系 possessed a classic and somewhat elegant charm that not everyone could see nor appreciate (though this improved a lot in the final years). Serious and dependable, though unlucky at times, it took some time and changes for the 200系 to find it's stride (no other Shinkansen series went through as many different formations and modifications). Intelligent in design and features, though not always obvious for those not looking deep enough. Appreciated, though never as popular as it's peers (like the 0系 and 500系 for example).

The 200系 (together with the 0系, though more so the 200系) also represents the series that made me fall in love with Japanese trains 14 years ago. Before being aware of the 200系 I already had an interest in Japan and it's railways (especially the 181系, EF66形, EF81形, 381系 and 583系, which slowly developed into a love for the J.N.R. types through the years ), but it was the 200系 which transformed this interest into a passion. So for me being able to finally ride and experience the 200系 in person 3 years ago, and especially it being a 'special' formation (formation K21, the Shinkansen formation with the longest service life on recorded (29 years and 10 months)) proved to be an emotional (a bit pathetic, I know :)) and bittersweet experience.

So one of my 200系 would definitely have to stay in this hypothetical situation. (actually, all of them stay just like the rest of my collection of course!)

Most probably my MicroAce 8-car Hokusō Kaihatsu 7000 type. To most people just another commuter train, but for me it was a must have ever since I rode it (11 years ago). Great memories to the prototype and a great model. The design is odd and out of place, which fits me very well.

To represent me, unfortunately there isn't a train that specifically sells alcohol.

If I had to choose though, I'd keep my EF66. In a way, it's a bit representative of me. It does hard dirty work when it has to, but cleans up fairly well when it's appropriate. For me, I have done fairly filthy work in a charity warehouse but I clean up and go to work in a liquor shop. For the EF66, could be pulling freight and getting dirty, or cleaned up to pull a passenger train.

This is not an interesting question.  It is evil.  It is the kind of question I would expect from the Devil, should I be unfortunate enough to go to hell ...

"E6系 ... choose!  You must choose only one of you 130 consists to keep.  The rest you shall watch me burn here in Hell.  Choose!  CHOOSE!! .... NOW!!!", said the Devil.

I can't choose one or the other cause they all have a meaning for me. From the 100 series Grand Hikari Shinkansen to the E7 series Hokuriku Shinkansen (and those Shinkansens in between) and then you have the Diesel, Electic and Steam fleets. It is just too hard to choose. But if there would have to be one would be the 485 Aizu Liner Express train cause of my liking to the town of Aizu-Wakamatsu and the history of the region.
