westfalen Posted May 24, 2014 Author Share Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Travelled from Kokura to Kumamoto this morning then continued on to Kagoshima Chuo to do some tram riding after we left our bags at the hotel. It seemed to ride a bit better than the other car in the set that still had the old bogies. We assumed the railway was getting new bogies in exchange for Kawasaki testing and advertising them. I can't believe how clean everything is and I'm glad I don't drive in an area where there are Trams.....I probably wouldn't know where to drive when a tram came except out of the way :) Link to comment

The reason I ask is because 787系 is probably my favourite consist to ride, especially the Green Car. 2. Did you have time to try and buy any of the fine desserts for sale at Nagasaki Station? It is well-known that Nagasaki Station offers some of the finest desserts. My wife can spend hours there buying all sorts of sweet desserts. Link to comment

My wife can spend hours there buying all sorts of sweet desserts. 1. We travelled from Shin-Tosu to Nagasaki and Nagasaki to Hakata by 885 White Sonic. My honest opinion of the 885 is that it is not the best train to ride in, the windows are too small to see much unless you have a window seat or to see things out the opposite side from where you're sitting, the large fixed arm rests between the seats give you less room and the ride was very rough at times, I think they sacrifice ride quality for speed. Give me an old 485 any day. 2. I didn't try any of the desserts. I'm trying to stick to a diet but it's hard in Japan. Link to comment

It was a bit crowded at times with one lot of seats removed to make way for the model train display but a group of 22 Australians didn't help much. The trains did appear to be stuck to the track but I couldn't see how. Included in the case were a Tenshodo C58 and C11, a rough calculation I made wouldn't give much change out of $10,000 for the trains in the case. Link to comment
