(UK) National Rail schematic timetable map

There exists a diagrammatic map of all the National Rail routes in and around major cities.

Ex: UPRe741.png

It is my opinion that this is one of the coolest maps around.

I wonder if it would be possible for one of our UK users to pick up two or three hard copies and mail them to me. Supposedly it is available at most staffed stations. I can paypal money for postage.

I'll have a look see if there's anything like that in Birmingham, but don't ever remember seeing anything like it.

I'm also in London on the 15th so will have a look there as well for you.

I'm operating under the assumption that there are still printed maps, because

(i) I have a 1987-1988 version of this map, which is almost identical in graphic design.

(ii) If you download the PDF of Glasgow-Edinburgh from NR's website (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/css/NetworkRail_GlasgowEdinburghmap.pdf), they clip out the line between Carstairs and Kirknewton. On my printed '87-88 version this is space is occupied by Newcastle, and indeed the present PDF (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/css/NetworkRail_Newcastlemap.pdf) looks like it would fit.

So I'm pretty sure they've just been printing the same map for 25+ years with minor alterations.

The Brighton mainline. I would really like to model that area someday. That and the Chatham mainline... :) Nice 3rd rail area, the exact opposite of what Japan did. The UK went with 3rd rail even on the suburban lines, while Japan went with overhead even for the subway lines.

Off topic, but you're not travelling south of London that day seeking out N Gauge layouts perchance?

I went to my local station for you but they didn't have anything, the guy did check in all the cupboards.  I will try one of the bigger station soon when I have time.

There is a risk that they quit printing the maps at the same time as they quit printing the National timetable as the map was an enclosure to the timetable.  National Rail still produces the timetable and the maps, but only as PDF-files.

No luck at my main station, I did get a big poster of changes to routes/times due to engineering works if that is of any interest? I will try and take a picture of the poster if I can

It has been a while, but I have managed to find a paper version of this map... If interested, drop me a PM and I'll put a couple in the post for you...

This is on the reverse...
