Track for Nn3½

EF65

Recommended Posts

Hello,
for my Japan Nn3½ project I construct a special 7mm gauge model track, with Micro Engineering Code 55 tracks.
The turnouts are 18cm or 16cm long.

sven,

very cool!

how are you pulling the wheels in on the power chassises? rebuilding the trucks or is there enough room in there to squeeze things?

Hello and thank you,

I have old pictures of the bogies and gears. With a file and a scalpel, the webs are built inside narrower. The driving characteristics are thus not affected.

Tomix wheel's wife a file edit.

Wow! You converted N gauge switches to a different gauge! Amazing! Is it now the same gauge as Z gauge or is it exactly 1067mm/160?

If he's using 7mm track gauge, it's a bit wider than the 6.5mm of Z gauge. It would be correct for 1067mm (3' 6")  gauge at 152.4 scale, which is 2mm/foot scale. If he wanted to do the exact correct gauge for the Japanese N scale of 1:150, the gauge would be 7.1 mm, so 7mm is quite close enough, I reckon!

Somewhere on YouTube there are videos of a Japanese modeler who has rebuilt his models to run on the 6.5mm Z gauge track, which would scale to 1:164, also close enough and would allow use of the Rokuhan Z gauge track system, which, along with the Micro-Trains and Peco track components,  is used by N narrow gauge modelers in Europe and the USA for everything from 3 foot to metre to 3'6" gauge at 1:160 scale.
