This is an interesting concept, "The "dream railway paradise entertainment" story is set in a parallel world where Japan did not privatize its national railways."

Kind of like modelling a present day Santa Fe, or the Pennsylvania RR if Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern never happened.

Will have to search the video stores in Japan for this one next time I'm there.

I especially like this: 'On top of that, an extremist group called "RJ" plots to privatize the Japanese National Railways.'

The Next Station Is... told me he ordered the novels but I'm not sure if he got them eventually.

I think you're right. They have a novel and manga now and the anime is coming. Manga is easier to follow with a beginners' level of Japanese as mine than novels. :P

This is one anime series i would definitely look out for! Sweet!

* Side note, somehow or rather the girls in the anime looks strangely familiar... The cover girl bears resemblance to Evangelion's Marie...*

Im hoping enough people like it that a translated version appears, either by the maker or by fans.

I am thinking the same thing! English translation please, what a fun looking series.

I'm not looking for strict technical accuracy, but the EF58/EF510-500 hybrid on the cover of the first issue is concerning.  Have any of the Japanese-speaking members here read this series?  What's it about?  Is the railway a significant part of the plot, or is it just the setting?

on second thought, I guess it's an EF66/EF510, but regardless, it's enough to make a true rail otaku have a fit.

It is a alternate universe after all, I would imagine the real Japanese rail scene would be quite different today if JNR had remained in existance rather than having the separate JR companies going in their own directions for 25 years. The cover of issue 2 shows a DF51 pulling the Hokutosei but we are probably the only ones looking at the engine numbers.

I can see no Shinkansen shown yet, I wonder what the Shinkansen network would be like today if it were all still under one management?

I did get some of the novels through; despite being light novels they're way past my level of Japanese language competency! They do have some illustrations though that I haven't seen anywhere else, so the money hasn't been wasted.

I'm absolutely buzzing that Rail Wars is getting an anime adaption - I'm not going to miss it, though I have a feeling my wife is going to find it hard to watch!

I never would have picked up on that had you not pointed it out.  I love it as an alternative universe idea, certainly looks the part! :P

The official site is now up with one drawing featuring the characters: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/railwars/

The womanly round-shaped thingies have been enlarged quite a bit though, as often with Japanese animation.

"Breasts: The anime (featuring trains and some other stuff)"

I'd still watch it. The way the characters are drawn is kind of appealing and not horridly proportioned like some other shows. Nice eyes too, that usually appeals to me alot in animes.

Hi, I just noticed a new Anime is starting in July called Rail Wars! www.tbs.co.jp/anime/railwars/

The series takes place in an alternate version of Japan where the nationalized railway system was never privatized Naoto Takayama is an ordinary high school student who aspires to a comfortable life working at Japanese National Railways. He ends up working as a security force trainee, where he unwillingly has to deal with his strange colleagues as well as RJ, a group of extremists who are fighting to privatize the railway.

Rail Wars! began as a novel series written by Takumi Toyoda. The first novel was published on January 16, 2012 and eight volumes have been released as of January 31, 2014. Also a manga was published starting in November 2013.
