though I have been a member for some time I have only recently started posting ( about 3 or 4 posts)

I found this forum after visiting the Quinntopia website up until finding the videos and website of Quinntopia,

I was a modeler of BNSF and Farmrail but was not happy with what I was modeling. After seeing Quinntopia I realized

that I liked the way the non-north American trains looked better so I embarked on selling most of my north American trains and buying up

German, French, Japanese and other European trains. Not knowing much about them I learning as I purchase.

So as I make posts and you know something about the train or loco or car please post the info you know about it, I will most likely learning something new.

BTW name's Robby

nice to be here on this forum.

Hello Mr n_scale_crazy,

There is such diversity in Japanese railways that one can quickly go bankrupt collecting the models.  For example, I already have over 120 consists.  I have 17 shinkansen.  I have  two 200 series shinkansen:

Micro Ace A1596/7 200-1500 Shinkansen Renewal 25th anniversary - running number K47

Tomix 92625 + other cars 200-2000 Shinkansen - running number H3

I have a third one on order.  It will be available later this month:

Micro Ace A0263/9 200-0 Shinkansen - running number F52.

You can learn about shinkansen here with links to individual shinkansen series within this document: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinkansen

You can see shinkansen models here: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1697/0/1

So, as you can see, the Japanese n-gauge models can become quite detailed and specific.  But I don't just collect shinkansen.  I have a handful of themes and I try to limit my purchases to those themes.

Here I suggest several other interesting themes:

Location Themes:

- JR Kyushu (the southern-most of the large islands of Japan): http://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/time_table/time_table.html

- Odakyu and Hakone Tozan: http://www.hakone-tozan.co.jp/en/ and http://www.odakyu.jp/english/romancecar/lineup/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odakyu_Electric_Railway

Type Themes:

 - Joyful Trains - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyful_Train

 - Tokyo Metro - English map here: http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/

Tokyo Metro is particularly interesting to me because you will find several manufacturers creating similar versions of the same type, for example, Tokyo Metro Series 10000:

    - Greenmax with end car numbers 10015 and 10115: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10100437

    - Greenmax with end car numbers 10016 and 10116: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10216587

    - Micro Ace with end car numbers 10022 and 10122: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10192862

    - Kato with end car numbers 10032 and 10132: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10160371

If you buy each of them you can run four genuinely prototypical consists with different running numbers on your layout.

You will find most trains are described on Wikipedia.  For example, searching "200 series shinkansen" will return: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/200_Series_Shinkansen and "16000 series train" will yield: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Metro_16000_series

I know I have provided such detail but please don't be afraid.  There are many knowledgeable people here who can answer your questions better than me.
