Sotetsu has some of the ugliest trains in my opinion: the 8000 and 9000 series.

They would be nice looking trains except for the single headlight in the middle of the front. How they would look better?

E233 (or Sotetsu 11000) style.

And the much better E231-500 (or Sotetsu 10000) style.

That artist's rendering of the new Sotetsu model seems a bit out of proportion, too tall/narrow.  I'll wait until I see the real thing.  It'll probably be fine.

Something from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Series 1600

Designer: "Here is the brand-new 1600 series"

Driver: Aren't the front windows too small?

Designer: Nah, just go straight, blow the horn and hope for the best.

And here is the 5500 series

Aw, so that was the end of the Seibu Galaxy Express train. I didn't know that. :sad1:

Let's talk ugly again, though.

How about the Škoda Type 109 E1?

I think there's a good reason one of its many nicknames is "bathtub".

Los Angles got some new locomotives recently, and i think they qualify for ugly trains.  The artist rendering is awful, the proposed paint schemes aren't great, and the final product looks like someone melted one end of a boxcab and added lipstick.

Surely the Taucherbrille takes the prize for the Czech Republic (former CSSR)?

That's the post-overhaul version, which I have yet to see or ride on in person. I don't really see the point in doing a midlife overhaul for these trains considering that they're already more than 40 years in service. Maybe that's the reason why they've only overhauled one or two sets yet...

Anyway, as the last paragraph already indicated, all of these trains are already more than 40 years in service without any overhaul, a new coating of paint or any maintenance not related to keeping them somehow in service, so they're in a pretty deteriorated state. The SNCB should really order some new rolling stock and buy the AM75 a one-way ticket to the scrapyard. This is just a lost cause.
