German Train Shops (maybe OT)

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good shop in Germany?

I found this info, which is helpful but maybe time consuming.

If you go to the MIBA website www.miba.de then follow the Fachhaendler tab on the left hand side, you will find a list of all the shops in all the regions, and the ones with websites/on-line shops. So you can compare prices of the bigger dealers.

Thanks

Rick

well,

maybe the price is not everytime the best,  but I bought from them some items in the past (Kato TGV's , RAe, RAbe, etc.) really good service and items in perfect condition and rapid solutions for DOA and broken parts (caused from shipping)

of course, for them is much simple to work with Italian buyers because is not so far, I don't know if can be the same with overseas customers..

Do you mean a physical or digital shop?

As for a physical shop that sells N-gauge stuff for a fair price and has a good range: http://www.menzels-lokschuppen.de/ in Düsseldorf. A pretty impressive shop IMO, plus at the end of the Köningsallee, so located centrally as well.

EDIT: herp. Signore Massimo already mentioned this one... :P

You can also track down hobby shops by looking up shops in an European supplier`s web site.  I did this with Rocco when I first went to Portugal.

Thanks guys!!

I'm pretty impressed with a lot of European stuff including Kato Lemke and Hobby train.

I was thinking about getting Brawa Talents as they are 3-car railcars that are a nice size for limited space. So I figured to ask the experts here as its difficult to find items when too many stores carry it. Brawa only lists stores in Germany by Postal Code and that had me stonewalled until I found the link at the top. Even so that's a lot of stores!

So in a hobby frenzy I found a shop that did not have them in stock but had the best prices I could find.. or as quickly as can be found when one is in a frenzy!

Apparently my pregnant wallet will lose size and give birth to 3 Brawa Talents in a few weeks...  Cigars all around!!

Thanks again

Rick

Hi,

Not sure as to what your exact requirements are?

However Japan Model Railways or Modellbau Union in Kamen near Dortmund offer a range of Japanese models Dapol and Hornby. Have purchased from Heiko Stoll for many years with no complaints.

The best price for the NWB Talent I've found yet: http://www.lokmuseum.de/shopartikel.php?SWg1=&SWg2=&SArt=10012667&SBez=64005%20BRAWA%20Dieseltriebwagen%20Talent%20643%20der%20NWB&Seite=0&SID=150507485550&suchen=talent&suchSWg1=alle

That reminds me I recently bought a HO Scale model fire truck from Minitaur Wunderland Online shop.  Most of their stuff is HO.  Shipping was 7 Euros.

Thanks again!

Its always been hard (for me) to search for things from sites with languages i don't know, so appreciate that many of the German sites posted have an "English" button. I get most of my Japanese stuff from HS because their site accommodates communication so you know what you are ordering.

Then there's the problem of finding shops that carry items from the manufacturer(s) you want; and then finally whether its in stock!

Sometimes using a translator does not help..

From spending an hour or so searching on the net, it was refreshing to find some really good sites and also to know that rip-off stores exist elsewhere!  Its amazing how much price can differ. Unfortunately a lot of hobby shops in Canada are more like boutiques - with she-she-foo-foo pricing!!

I eventually found a store with the item of interest at about $220 US plus shipping. The highest price was almost $400!!!  The latter justified his high price by his excellent service even though he had to order the item I wanted and it might take a month or 2!!

It made me feel pretty good buying Japanese stuff that ships within days!

Thanks

Rick

BTW you should check if the shops deduct the German VAT (19%; "Mehrwertsteuer", "MwSt.") for deliveries to non-EU countries. (www.lokmuseum.de and www.modellbahn-kramm.com do, not sure about the others)

Thanks for that!!  I figured this out a while ago but almost missed it because I did not know what VAT was.

Thanks
