castles

Recommended Posts

just ran across a couple of new castles (kumamoto and matsue) released this year by woody joe (know that make some snikker). they are 1/150 laser cut wooden kits that look to have spectacular detail. his older 1/150 kits had much much less detail, not being laser cut sets but more precision cut blocks. these kits are now full on wooden scale model kits.

im sorely tempted by the Matsue castle, but have not even started the 1/144 kumamoto creos model i have yet, its a painting nightmare as it comes apart with detailed interiors as well!

cheers

oooh i found a blog on doing a woody joe castle! lots of good picts and info! they look like challenging kits to do. i wondered how they do the stone work on the walls and its basically like fitting field stone! make trapezoids and then piece it all together!

here is an importer that seems to do list price but with inexpensive shipping and final prices better than those importers on ebay. can contact the owner to see about other kits, sounds like the blog guy did a special order.

the pictures look quite impressive. surprised at the prices not too bad. but of course it would be 4x for the 1/150 scale probably!

1/300 might work as background on a Z scale layout, especially if you've got depth of field.

One of our club members has a big japanese n scale layout and he did the 1/400 Kimomizu-dera temple up on a mountain side w/o anything around it and it worked quite well as it had a bit of depth of filed but mainly just not anything around it to set off the scale bells! I was surprised how well it worked actually!

but i agree in most cases 1/200 is probably about the most of n scale usually, but depends on what you can do with the scene.

Same here, although the blog made me remind myself at the hours that will be required for a woody Joe castle! If a wooden ship builder thought it took a while, well if you have build those you will know!
