Its amazing what you can see on google earth, while tracking an extensive freight line on the outskirts of Birmingham in the UK i found this derailed container train!,

That's quite a find.  If you zoom in, you can see the people standing on the tracks examining the derailment.

 

Since the image is from 2007, if enough people view this, it's going to cause them to update it with a newer one.

 

I found it using the lattitude/longitude from the photo.  Is there a way to save a link to a Google Earth location?  I can't see one.

Over the last few years I've taken to using Google Earth to search out possible railfanning spots for my trips.

i love google earth i used it to find hiking tracks in japan. Then googled the track to find how to get there. from nearest train station.

 

I'm going to japan in august 2012 for up to 2 months maybe more.

 

I Have already setup some placemarks in google earth  :grin

 

also going to be riding the E5 via first class  :grin :grin :grin
