Tomix Tram Question

Hey guys, I think I might try and incorporate a Tram into my layout but I don't want a continuous loop, I would rather have a tram that travels on a point to point line auto reverses itself travels to the other end and repeat. I have watched a few youtube videos where this happens but was wondering if anyone knows what I would need to do this?

I was thinking on the following Tomix set with a few extra pieces to construct the path I want.

For the auto reverse function is this what I would need? The HS website doesn't really describe what it does.

I am also interested in the Tomytec Bus system, has anyone tried this yet?

Any help would be great.

I picked up that set a while ago, it is nice.  Got an extra motor for the 2nd tram.  Haven't had a chance to to layout the track but I know the trams work well on my kato track I have laid out.

The Tomix 5568 TCS Wide Tram Sensor Track S37-WT-SE is for using with the Tomix 5563 Automatic Operation Unit which has nine different functions including auto reverse.  It also requires a Tomix controller of which there are several different versions including a wireless controller.

More info on Rich Kerr's web site:

The Tomix Bus System has not been released yet, so nobody has experience with it. But with the bus system you would have to do a loop.  This is the only configuration that has been announced.

Thanks for the info and links.  Auto reversing doesn't seem as difficult as I thought so I think I will be buying a tram system to incorporate into my layout. I wonder how long that tram starter set will be on sale at HS, should I grab one now or is this something they put together quite frequently?

My layout is going to be Hokkaido based so this question just came to mind.....do any cities or areas in Hokkaido have trams?

As far as we know it was never officially announced.  It was sold out before and I think it has an odd item number. Generally with Japanese trains, apart from track and structures, if you see something you like grab it.  It will probably sell out within 6 months and you never how long until it be released again.  Not always good for my wallet, but I am happy more often than not.  :grin

You can just get the Tomix 91086 MA-WT track set that is included in the special package deal on Hobby Search, and then get whatever trams you want. Additional straight tracks would be good for a point-to-point layout. Now that you are on the Yahoo Tomix group, access the group's Links section which include links showing all automatic operation modes of the Tomix 5563 control unit. There are simpler ways to automate your intended operation -- Jeff can chime in here with info on an electronic control unit he uses. It reverses and can also control intermediate tram stops.
