GreenMax - New Releases

Recommended Posts

Quite a nice building, couldn't get a closer look, but first feeling that the facade looks kinda wierd? Perhaps the colours and the texture...

Good idea for GreenMax to come out with pre-painted models! Some of their models are great, but people hesitate buying them because they require painting.. I for one is very unconfident of my painting skills and wouldn't bear risking to paint them..

Suddenly had a thought of using the viaducts as vehicular ones instead of rails since thei do not come with a rail... But it's probably too narrow for a dual carriage way vehicular viaduct...

I actually feel the same way JR.

Just recently I received my first (I think) GM product - a bridge set. So far, I have only built the roadway bridge from the whole set but I must say that it is a delight experience and GM's detail seems better than the rest.

But you're right, even if their products are priced right - I tend to shy away from them 'coz painting is my waterloo. If they indeed would go the direction of painted parts even partly and still be priced accordingly - they would certainly have a bigger chunk of the market.

As for their Tokyo Inn Hotel building - I hope the $50 is srp and real world pricing would be at $30 - $35. It would also be great if GM would release "modular" building sets similar to DPM or Walthers. I think they already have a product where you can mix and match building facades and sides but wish it was a tad taller.

They also seem to have a new 5-storey apartment building and there is a 4-storey add-on set to it but fetching for $40.

Mardon,

Green max did do a modular high rise set. It ran about $6/ floor with a pretty small footprint. You could do a 4x greater footprint by doubling up kits at $12 per floor. Interesting model and a couple of window choices, one is an odd vertical 2 story window.

Not sure if these are rereleased with the new packaging. Original release I think ended up not selling too well as thy wound up on the hs clearance rack.

Thats right Jeff - thats the building I was talking about but worded it as "apartment", it should've been "business/offices". My bad.

But jeesh, just a 9-storey building for $47? Isnt that a bit pricey?

Here are the GM structures that I mentioned could have facades and sides that could be mixed and matched:

Its great making a one-off building by buying multiples of the set, but not economical if you need to fill some city blocks.

Mardon,

these are basically the same kits, parts all look the same. you can see the long thin vertical 2 story window sections i was talking about. you get both the long ones and the smaller square  windows as well. so you actually get a bit extra, just not enough to add floors with, but when you get to doing a larger structure you can probably do some interesting things with the extras.

there were a few large buildings done with this. thread on these here

it looks like with their big redo of the packaging and stock numbers greenmax has just now gone to only non colored (instead of having them cast in two different colors) and now its a 5 story building and a 4 story add on instead of 3 story and 2 story addon. also went up $1 per floor in price overall. i think the older, smaller ones are maybe not going to be continued, they have been oos of quite a while now and the remaining ones at hs and hlj were sold off at 50% off last year.

unfortunately i think the walthers system flopped as well, in the end it was selling at closeout and were discontinued. Ive grabbed up a number of the roof detail kits, great for acs and large fans for roofs! but getting harder to find, but i think it was one of the sets not discontinued!

still not really cheap and yes gets pricy to do larger buildings!

larger buildings that have glass walls are much easier to do it yourself like your paper kit, but just do it in plastics and heavy duty chip board to avoid warping. its cutting the square windows that are the hard part in doing your own high rises like this. then lots of window mullions and frames! but so many buildings have basically just strips of glass windows with some vertical supports like your model then strips of wall so again easy to roll your own this way with printed acetate or thin acrylic and pin tape then horizontal wall strips at each floor.

these older green max structures can be kitbashed into taller or larger structures pretty easily

i am hoping they re-release this series as these were made with kitbashing in mind! the third one was specifically to allow custom tie ins between the other buildings!

Hi Mardon:

If you would like larger buildings, especially skyscrapers, and don't mind paper structures, there is a cheaper alternative for large and tal structures.

http://paperstructure.web.fc2.com/

I got some of their paper kits through Yahoo Auctions.. They're quite nice and easy to construct... If you can print on good paper and ink, you can actually get digital copy from them and print out on your own... They look really nice! I have about 5 of their structures already, but as i do not have a good printer, i had to buy from Yahoo Auctions their 'Ready-to-make' kits... And they do not ship their ready to make kits overseas...

Good option for multiple and quick high rise building construction that looks great, but downside is lighting them up will not be easy...

Kato and Tomix also have some very good looking ready to use structures.. These structures look great with lights inside them! If only GreenMax does more of their kits in pre-painted forms...

@Jeff - the GM 5-storey station looks good and at $17 gives more for the money. I've been eyeing that station for some time now.

@JR - interesting stuff bud! I will check it out. I recently made a scalescene building, but scalescene has limited 'modern' building stuff. So far, they only have city block and parking garage. They do have lots to offer if you do "european" scenes thou.

Yes the paper structures are a good (and cheap) substitude to high rise buildings... I'm gonna get my Greenmax catalogue coming in soon from Popondetta... I'm guessing the catalogue should have more information on Greenmax structures released from previous till now...

I'll leave it at the structure releases, because most people are interested only in these (please say so if not):

June: http://www.greenmax.co.jp/image/new_release/new_release_201306_01.jpg

July: http://www.greenmax.co.jp/image/new_release/new_release_201307_01.jpg

An interesting product in the June poster: diaphragms sold in pairs.

July: painted work train, catenary masts, wave breakers, road signs, and railway barriers in October. You can see all pre-painted kits now here: http://www.greenmax.co.jp/Product/colorstructure/GM_colorstructure_201209.htm

I don't really like the paint job on the catenary masts and some others though; it looks like a bit too easy job done.

MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN HEARD BY THE GREAT BEARDED GREEN-MAXIMUS!!

Greenmax is re-releasing some older Economy Kits, under which the old Keikyu 1000 Series! I think I'm going to throw up of excitement! At least four are going to be bought. Chiba Kyūkō 1000, Keisei 3050, 3100 and maybe a freelance model are coming!

And a new structure; a high version of those service platforms, these are intended to service the equipment on the roof: http://www.greenmax.co.jp/Product/colorstructure/2799-2802.pdf

Lots of re-releases of the same ol' Kintetsu stock... how bout something new? Shimakaze... or the 20000 series (which has been operating for 5 years already)... or 15400 (which is minor retooling on the 12200).

I'm wondering... there is a platform set and an add-on platform set but I can't figure out what is in them.

Would you guys actually run that thing, or would it mostly be parked?  Watching it move at scale speed won't be too exciting :grin

Naw, just on a sidetrack for show. It's a great eyecatcher that is usually forgotten on layouts.

Well they can run at a pretty good clip when getting from one place to another!

Nice .. I wonder if they'll be kits or ready to run models, and whether they're motorised or not ...

Definitely wouldn't mind a set of them either way :)

My dream would be for Tomix to make a "Track Cleaning Car" version of the Plasser & Theurer.
