Tomix - New Releases

Tomix is finally releasing JR Kyushu painted Kiha 40s and 47s.  I've been hoping for these for a while.  Seems that the current plan is to release them sometime in February.

If my current Kiha 40/47/48s weren't MicroAce, I'd probably jump on these.  Or if Tomix did the Isaburo-Shinpei, Hayato no Kaze and Ibusuki no Tamatebako.  Then I'd probably make the full switch over to Tomix for my Kihas.

Yeah, outside contained sets like the Kiha 81/82 series from Kato, I've gone and switched over to only tomix for the rest.  The new Kiha 40 series models are very nice, and the fact that they all run together is great.  Plus they have been releasing some unlikely models, so your not just stuck with only kiha 40s and 58s.

Anyone got more info on these new mini FG17 controllers?  Looks like they take a universal separate power pack for power supply from the photos.  But no other info I can find.

Essentially it could be as simple as an on-off switch, a potmeter and a pwm generator chip, a low active transistor drive chip and a double pole, double throw, center off switch for direction control. This setup could even provide limited CL capabilities. Of course, i'm just assuming what is inside, but today that's pretty much all you need for a good analog controller.

Yeah.  As per the previous discussions about it on the last page.

Oops.  I missed it among the discussion of toasters and microwaves.

I am first seeing it for sale just today.

I'm still thinking why Tomytec is refusing to get back with those car collections whereby there are 12 boxes and 2 cars in a box, and secret variations... These 4 cars in a pack are quite more expensive than getting an entire box with 24 cars and a chance at a secret variant...

Guys, quick question... what do you guys think are the chances for Kato to also do the E235? Before I go straight ahead to pre-order the Tomix E253, it pondered upon me if Kato will do the same... and I will much prefer Kato's regular couplers over Tomix's default Rapido ones and a couple more Ks. to change them all to TN...

Well both do E231s, maybe Kato is waiting to see what Tomix comes up with, then do something better? I don't know how many are in service now but seems every time I'm one the Yamanote line I see at least one.

That different roof profile on the gate compatibility car is ugly. Very much like the rebuilt cars mixed into in the old Osaka 103-s. Otherwise the new front and side design is still a big meh for me. I do understand that this was meant to look modern and also look more or less like the 101/103-s, but still. I'ts probably just the black vinyl pattern and the mismatching front and roofline.

also, isn't E235's length is 19500mm while E231's is 20000mm?

Which car is the gate compatibility one?  Is that to make sure the door positions match that of older trains?  I agree the front looks more like a smartphone than a train, although it does seem better than lot of new designs.  I hadn't noticed the roof profile not matching the front before, I wonder what a corrected front face would look like.

Car number 10, which has the doors in the same position as the Keihin Tohoku line end cars, so they can share platforms with doors if necessary. IIRC that and possibly car 7 have been taken from an E231 set as they were built relatively recently as replacements for the 6-door cars (not sure if that's just for the E235 prototype or the production ones too).

Personally I like non-uniform sets, makes life more interesting.

Based on this picture: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:E235系_山手線@有楽町.jpg ,

a quick and dirty photoshop to see how it would probably (approximately) look:

The original E231-500 sets could be considered not to be uniform sets either because of the 6-door cars. I'm curious as to how they're going to cope with the reused cars during later life of the E235, as they may need replacement before the other cars do.

I have a similar set (I think the previous version) on one of my T-trak moduls:

Offical Tomytec video... I'm thinking of getting this one since all the trains are nice and can be easily fitted into my layout!
