Looking to model a underground Japanese subway train platform

Hi

I lived in Kyoto for 5 years back in the 1990s and was a dirt-poor eikaiwa teacher. Now... well now I'm neither. I visited Japan in Oct and was inspired to get back into trains.

I'm doing a Japanese layout on a 4x8 foam. It will be multi-layered with at least 3 levels including an underground subway station at the edge of the board. I will cover with acrylic to protect the interiro.

I'm using mostly Kato track but will likely need to flex-track to do this.

I'm running the Hankyu and want it to go underground at the edge of my foam layout, and I need a station that will accommodate the 8 car train. So far I've found 1 Tomytec model, but it's 28cm long - not long enough and the Japanese seller will only sell 1. Plus the interior looks dated.

I'm thinking about kit-bashing the Kato 20-815 single sided platform kit. It's an outdoor kit, but is one sided and has a newsstand.

Anyone have ideas where I can get something that will work?

Hi
I am currently building a similar style layout on foam board, 3 levels, an underground subway protected by acrylic.  I am using Tomix track although flex track would allow more variation to the overall design.:

There are a large number of platforms to choose from if you buy from an on-line store in Japan:

Perhaps do a search on the Hobby Search site to see whats available.  In my case I decided to use a standard Kato outdoor station with LED lighting for the overall effect.  But if you wanted to be more realistic then you could use a standard platform, and maybe put columns on it to support a roof / wall structure.  You could make the station any length by adding more platform segments.

Good luck!

A subway platform has been offered before by Mokei Kobo Permil (M`s Craft) for both Kato Unitrack and Tomix Finetrack. It seems the Kato version is sold out but the Tomix version  is available.

Tomytec has a subway entrance kit.  https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10565542

For subways you mainly just need the platforms as the roof and walls are usually just cement and some columns and beam work.

one warning on subways, it’s best to make the subway level removable if possible or at least very accessible from the sides to grab derailed trains and clean track. Everyone I’ve know who has done a subway has cursed lack of easy access later!
