Early example of using simulators for training. In this case the simulators represent the firebox backheads and tender shovelling plates of various JNR steam loco classes. The short-handled shovels are, as far as I know, unique to Japan.

 

 

I wish I'd had something like this when I was learning to fire. 🙂

Reminds me of my time learning to run steamship boiler rooms, we had something similar at the academy!
