My Asahiyama zoo train showed up today. wow! its quite the looker. really nice printing on the body with the animals and very nice colors. it really stands out! nice addition if you like painted trains, one of the best out there IMHO. not quite as cool as the greenmax blue liner with the different art on each side of the train (zoo critters on one side and aquarium on the other), but still very stunning. this is going to be a great one for the sakuri matsuri in a couple of weeks!

cheers

Another one.  This is Enoden 110th anniversary railway and 85th anniversary bus.

MODEMO! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?

credit card alert! damn and i thought i had enough trains...

i must say the galaxy express Furusato Ginga Line 999 are quite nice so i expect the 8 car seibu 3000 will be absolutely stunning! i really do need to work on the display case idea for these trains.

ive been tempted looking back at the tea time train, but if those are decals, it could be quite tricky and one mistake...

Now I know what the Seibu 3000 reminded me of.

Seconded.

After contacting HS a while ago they told me that they are decals.

Well, the one Bill linked isn't an exact match for the new MAs, but it matches an older one.  And one of the new MAs matches one of the old Kato's.

Kato's two trains were done long ago, and replicate what they called the "new logo" version of the Resort 21 train (which appears to be a generic name for the 2100 series, used across several paint schemes and minor detail changes) and an older "extension pantograph" version. Wikipedia details the history of these, as Densha noted.

MA has done a number of these over the years.  I have the "Black Ships" (aka Kurufune) version myself, and I've though about getting others from time to time, since they do operate into Tokyo and so fit my layout's location and (for some) era. MA has previously done a "New Logo" (newer, 7-car version) and it and the new "Extension Pantograph" (original, 8-car version) designs appear to match the old Kato versions.  MA has also done several others.

Note that the 8-car trains are prototypical for prior to 2003, the seven-car version is for after that date, although some of the paint schemes remain in use (like Black Ships) if you omit the middle car. It would appear from Wikipedia that sets R-4 (one of the Black Ships ones) and R-5 (alternate Red/White/Blue stripes on cab) remain in service.  The two being released are both older designs.

the forthcoming Kiha185 -- I Love Shimanto/Ai looks very nice, im tempted! sounds like all the cars are painted, but picture of only one car so far. its got two motor units so you can run it as two 2 car trains.

Yes Jeff! 2nd that!

Ordered! It's a 2 motor train; i.e. it can be ran simultanously, so one can be for the up track, the other for the down track! Loving the colours so much i had to order it! Besdes, i'm missing a really nice looking DMU for my mountain regions ~~

Just to add onto the list, since i think i didn't see it being mentioned. I stumbled upon these two while 'leisurely' browsing around for painted trains on the net at Popondetta when these two numbers stuck me hard. Being in the Sale of Second Hand model train section, it didn't bear any picture and i didn' take much notice. I then later had sometime on my hands to check out what was being listed and my hand flew HARD to my head....

They were like, going cheap on Popondetta!

When i realised my mistake, i quickly turned back to Popondetta in an attemp to quickly grab them but it was all too late.....  :BangHead:

Ahhh... that's a pity! I know your feeling of trains getting "grabbed out of your hands" with Popondetta. Registering on their website may make the process faster, but I've yet to attempt that.

They regularly have new 2nd hand stock, if you are a die-hard you could search for the article numbers every day to see if it's back in stock.
