'Ruins'

I'd just been searching for Onsens to travel to in my upcoming 3wks in Japan and found that the Thunderbird travels all the way through to Wakura-Onsen (I'd usually been in the 5 former cars and didn't really know where the other 3 went!)

Anyway, I then google'd this and found that there was a line that continued further called the 'Noto Line'. It seems beautiful up there, but from Anamizu there is a length of abandoned track. One line goes North to Wajima (the Nanao line, but is since truncated to Anamizu) and then there was a line East to Takojima.

I found all this out through Wikipedia (although a little hard to navigate...) but then found gold:

Welcome to a single page showing a whole lot of 'Ruins' around Japan... most in remote areas and hard to reach, but well worth a visit if you happen to have time for day trips!

I notice more than half of those ghost lines and stations listed are in Hokkaido.  After the privitization of JNR, there was a mass closing of marginal branch lines up here.  When I was living in Nemuro, E. Hokkaido, almost every week I passed by this non-touristy yet remarkably preserved station (Okuyukiusu) to get to one of my work sites.  Pity I didn't take pictures- I'll have to make a trip there sometime:

Looks like I found another pace to add on the Hokkaido trip.
