Hi everybody,

this goes out to the Germans in this forum and to all those, who are staying in Germany on the first weekend in November. We will have our 15th annual "Kaltenberg Model Railway Days" on November 3rd and 4th, 2018 in D-86922 Eresing (approx. 30kms west of Munich). Here's our Flyer:

Besides several layouts in different scales and sizes and a large swap meet for used train stuff, you can enjoy your day with fantastic Bavarian food and beer, coffee and cakes.

Free entry, open 10am - 5pm!

I will show my small layout "Valditaro" and the japanese MAGLEV "Linear Liner"

I will do, for sure (although, last year I forgot to put my memory card into the camera....).

A few facts about our location. For 14 years we used the restaurant in the historic castle of Kaltenberg, until a "semi-stationary" tent had to be removed this year, which reduced the available space by approximatley 200 square metres. We all were very sad about this, and even the people from the restaurant had tears in their eyes when we left last year.

We found a new location in the village of Eresing just a few kilometres away, it's a very old country guest house and restaurant, which is mentioned in documents since the year of 1683. In 1993 the community hall had been added, which we now use for our exhibition. The traditional restaurant will provide food and drinks to our guests and us and we will provide railway fun for a whole weekend. The concept of a combination of traditional bavarian food and model trains proved to be very successful.

For pictures of recent years you can check out our facebook page:

Excellent combination and a win win for all! I wish we could find a similar situation here. Most large public venues here have no food or pretty mediocre food available.

have fun!

Hi everybody,

starting with some pictures of the show. We had an incredible weekend with our trains and food, and to be honest, with too much beer. I had a hotel room in the area, this saved me from driving home every night.

I had my layout Valditaro with me and the Takara Tomy Linear Liner, which was extremely popular with children. We used the free space around the MAGLEV to display some vintage Lima models from the 1960's.

In the past weeks I did some touch up in Valditaro, ballasting tracks planting bushes and grass on the front side. This improved the look of the layout a lot.

My neighbour and good friend Pete (he's always my neighbour in those shows) brought his nostalgic Trix Express layout with vintage buildings. This time he ran a rebuilt Rivarossi E424 with matching cento porte coaches (Rivarossi out of the Trix range, early 60's). For those not familiar with Trix, this was a 3-rail DC System made in Germany until the late 1980's. Now Trix belongs to Märklin and offers their models in 2-rail DC.

Another static display in our room, although not from us, themed "Freight traffic in Germany since the 50's".

Will continue!

Martin,

looks like it was a very fun and successful show! Good food and beer to boot, that’s excellent!

Kids love the maglev. I got a cheap kit one off amazon (that really is a full mag lev and used induction to run itself from in the train car) and the kids loved it at our last show. Plan to make it a regular display.

Love the stepped display shelf, I’ve though of doing something like that for shows as well for extra trains and maybe lifting off eachnshelf to be able to run on/off the layout as well. Really does make a nice display!

Thanks for presenting this!

cheers

More Pictures. "The Lightman", everybody who brought along a model car, could take it home with lights.

The British layout "Queensbridge" used to be a classic in Kaltenberg, now in Eresing, too.

Let's continue with an overview of the hall.

A little functional diorama. The loco rolls out of the shed, the bridge at the coal bunker closes. After a short while the loco goes back into the shed, and the bridge opens again. The pictures show the complete scene.

Two photos of the big modular layout from a group "Allgäuer Gleisbastler".

And finally, for today, the wonderful layout around the "Salamander Shoe Factory" in HOf gauge (6.5mm) with lots of scratchbuilt or rebuilt models and nice scenes in a very small space.

For the last part we have two narrow gauge HO layouts. I actually don't know the owner of the first one, at least it looks like a former West German prototype.

A group calling themselves "De Bimmlbahner" own the following modular setting, modelled after a Saxonian (East German) prototype.

Allright, that's it.In 51 weeks we'll be back again (2nd weekend in November 2019). My next upcoming show will be in the Munich Tram Museum in March 2019.

Thanks for watching,
