well i think they realize there are a huge amount of air vehicles available in 1/144 scale for those that want that stuff. would be a smaller market for those who want airplanes and even helicopters.

best you can do for the blimp is the modern zeppelin that flew in japan around the expo, but its 1:200 scale, so would need to be in the distance some. i have been collecting the artwork that was on the japanese zeppelin so i can make it (the kit comes with the german artwork)

Tomy seems to have a real plan on the lines they are doing. interesting they have not gotten into the hard core construction vehicles, i wonder if they saw that others (platz, maruka, etc) might jump into that particular niche and wanted to stay the 800lb gorilla in their main lines. they drove bandai out of the vehicle market!

I seem to recall Japan has a good number of blimps in tourist/ad service. I believe their LTA fleet is greater than the NA fleet.

I think that Nippon Airship Corp is the only one actively doing tourism with blimps/zeppelins. they have a Zeppelin NT they bought in 2005 (debuted at the expo) and is still doing tours i think. I have not seen any others in my pokings around the net when i got my zeppelin model.

1/200 revel model:

you also get a takara 1/700 static model as well for your tgauge to use in the background!

I'd have to check my register, but I know of twenty different LTA's in Japan owned by Japanese firms for use in advertising, that's more than the current 16 in the USA.
