Most boring train?

I also want to add the JR East E231/E233/E235 and other series based off these to the list. They are not necessarily ugly, but there just being so many of them makes things a bit boring. So is the case with JR West 221/223/225/227 series and JR Tokai 313 series.

 

I do agree to a certain extend, but another side of me is always telling me to get all the available color variants for the E233s...Technically they look the same except the colors, but something still bothers me to get them all... Like i'm still missing the E233-7000 Saikyo line and I already have quite a fleet of E233s but I still want to complete the series...

 

The West is slightly better, I only have the 221, 223-2000, 225-0 and the 227 Red wing, which I think should suffice for now...

 

Central is just as bad as east, having 3 'boring' 313 series, and still wanting to get all the other Limited Expresses like the 373, 383, Kiha-85s etc...

 

Summary, while boring, they still possess something that attracts me to them.. just couldn't point my finger on what that is...

In regards to lack of diversity I refrained from pulling out the E231/E233 cards, as they are quite pleasant to ride. The Odakyu 3000 is just nothingness.

Another company that might be considered "boring" is Keikyu with its all-red trains, but then, fans of Keikyu are more interested in operations than train colors or even train design. Alas, with Keihan (more or less) preparing to essentially paint most of its trains--including those operating in the Otsu area--into a single color livery, that could make them a bit boring, too.

 

I have this feeling that Hanshin may keep different color liveries depending on the model of the train.

Another candidate which comes to mind is the Seibu New Red Arrow which I see frequently but which totally fails to ignite any "must get model of one" instinct. Come to think of it even the Squidlet is totally unexcited by those.

Boring and lack of diversity are two different things.  I'm reading this thread and seeing the two being confused.

Yeah, boring fleet versus boring train. I like E233s. If they were the only type, perhaps that lack of diversity could be perceived as being a boring fleet of one type of interesting train.

The worst case scenario would be a fleet consisting of one type of boring train. As a young bloke I used to love visiting Victoria and experiencing what I regarded as the otherworldliness of the old VR. It was amazing how two states in the same country could have such profoundly different railway systems. To a Sydney boy, Melbourne was a very exotic place, with it's trams. The suburban railway had a character totally unlike ours back home, and the trains were a big part of that - Doggies, Taits, Harris's, Comengs and Hitachis.

 

Now that the place is overrun with Nexas's and Xtraps, it just feels like a Eurotrash outpost.

I like how they sound though, just like JNR rheostat control rolling stock.

I would like to nominate the Stadler Flirt trains. Almost every rail company in Europe has these now. They are everywhere... and they look quite boring I think, too. The newer Flirts are a bit better looking.

Diesel GTWs (Also by Stadler) are being more and more common these days.

 

Germany, Greece, The Netherlands, Italy and even the United States use these.

Another boring loco is the Bombardier TRAXX or the Siemens Eurosprinter family (DB class 185 and ES64).

 

They are evrywhere from Spain to South Korea, Evry company that operates freight trains in europe has at least one.

I kind of like the TRAXX family however. Especially the many different varieties of paintjobs. And the locomotive looks still more interesting than the boring Stadler FLIRT in my opinion.

Please note, that unlike the orange short and diesel electric ones above, the MAV/GySEV high speed commuter variants have huge panoramic windows as standard. Which (imho) improves both the look of the train and the view from inside. Imho the flirt family is very similar to the E233 series or the Hitachi A-Train family. (fun fact: in Hungary they are categorised as light articulated non tractor railcars, unlike older emu-s and dmu-s that consisted of separately numbered tractor railcars /Mc/, trailers /T/ and control trailers /Tc/)

 

ps: What is boring? It's really a matter of taste, but i find the original 1958 Bhv commuter car series nice. (http://www.ceerail.com/file/179)
