Bidirectional end car lighting. On old models

Recommended Posts

Folks. I found a lot of threads about what could and should work. Has anyone taken a specific decoder, hidden it under the seats (great idea Inobu) and built the proper led setup to succeed here? Can the new style LED boards be purchased and fitted, to the old cars? Has anyone posted a procedure. I'm searching, but can't find a definitive "how to". Thank you for reading and all the help people provide. [emoji846]

Every installation depends on the set in question. If the lenses and light pipes are installed (like in many Tomytec models), then adding a light board is easy. If the lights are just painted on, then you have to drill holes, fill them with transparent light pipes, then add the light boards that fit the shape of the car and the position of the lights. Every set is different. Maybe you could post a few pictures of the set you plan to light, so we could help.

My bad. I've been wrapped up in Kato 10-195, for so long, I forget to mention it. I'll post pics, but it's one where you have tail lights, in one direction and headlights in he other. I'll get pics up, in a few hours.

Again, my apologizes

The answer is yes to most of your questions. As kvp mentioned.  Each mods is specific to each train.  But in terms os directional lighting.  Which is just controlled by electrical polarity.  If you wanna add a decoder, you just add a 2 way decoder between the power source and the old light board.

Nariichi of this forum provides replacement LED lightboards:

they are advertised for Kato 205s, but look identical to the ones in my Kato 113.
