HO Model Kits?

Hey guys,

 

Been messing a bit with HO lately as my wife traded my son's O stuff for HO at a recent train show. I've ordered some HO Unitrack as the cr*p from the show, was just that.

 

Browsing the HO section of YJ, I came across this auction:

It seems to mention that it was a model that the seller (or someone else) has already assembled. I LOVE B Train Shorty, so it'd be cool to find another simple model line for HO scale as well. Does one exist, or is this something else?

Hobby Search has various HO scale assembly kits, in fact a full section of kits.

There are many kits available for JNR and private railway cars in HO scale. I have a lot of them, as well as freight car kits. I don't know anything about B-train Shorty models, so I don't know how they compare with HO kits, but I do know that in many cases the HO kits for things like EMUs and passenger cars only provide the bodies. You usually have to source the remaining parts, like trucks, wheels, couplers, underfloor equipment, pantographs and power units separately.

 

Having said that, the quality of most of the kits on the market is very good, they build up easily and make nice looking models with a bit of care.

The H0 kits are very much like the shorty kits, at least that you have to get the various components separately. There is one big difference though, that most H0 kits are not prepainted snap together kits, so glue and careful painting is required. The hard part imho is getting the paint right.

Yes, I like the shorty kits because they are sort of like the Japanese minipla kits: snap together and add stickers or light paint if you prefer.
