What did you do on your layout today? (N scale)

ThE problem I always have is I tend to use too much and over do it,well I did I ve just about learnt my lesson I think.

i m still very hesitant when doing it tho.

That’s right. Isopropyl is my best friend for that reason. Also, brand new Japanese freight cars are often cheaper than anything one can find second hand in Sydney. I have found some crappy Tomix and Kato stuff from deceased estates marked at ridiculous prices. Only once I managed to get a few decent things under what I would need to pay online.

Well it seems the tram layout is not quite as portable as I thought,it s just too heavy so this week I m going to modify it slightly.

 

I made the back quite high as the intention when it is finished was to put a glass cabinet around it and some of the American high rise are over 12" high so I needed the clearance but I ve scrapped this idea now In favour of making it lighter.The other purpose of the back is for the electrics and backscene poster.I ll mount some foamcard for the poster and the electrics I ll hide under a false base at the side of the buildings.I ve removed the back and modified the foam base at the side.The other thing I m going to do is cut most of the base away,at the moment it s a solid base but I m going to cut it out and just leave enough for it to sit on,about 4".

I've made up a wiring loom to sit in the void,3v,4.5v,6v,12v and 16v ac,the power supplies are wired to switches on the front and now all I need to do is connect the bulb or motor to the correct supply,all of which I ve colour coded.

 

Once it s all connected up and fixed down I ll make a false floor to cover the void which the buildings will sit on.

To lift up or remove to do work underneath I ll simply pull the connectors apart.

I wanted a Station that resembles Tokyo Station somehow. I'm not a modeler so It would be impossible for me to make one from scratch, and the dimension of Tokyo Station wouldn't fit on my layout anyways, so I tried myself in Painting stuff for the first time. I was planing on doing the white lines on the whole station, but since it is spray painted and it was very exhausting to add them, due to white paint I had to remove when it caught more than the lines, I just left the main part as it is.Not the best result, but I have to say it came out better than I thought it would.Now I'm waiting for my JR Tokyo sign from Toni.

So Mrs paul was nt very happy when I brought the tram layout inside and have taken up the dining table but it s too cold outside!!!😂😂

So I removed the back completely and cut away most of the base,I ve fixed the loom in place and wired in the switches. All that s left now is to connect up the supplies to the loom and the bulbs/ motors to the loom.

Blessed be the Squidlet, for he has discovered that watching Daddy "make twees" is most fascinating and almost forces me to sit down and start doing something, so I have actually got some more scenery done.

Do of course be aware this is all work-in-ad-hoc-progress and am slightly hampered by having the Squidlet sit on my lap, and I will soon need to prepare something else which can be done without involving sharp pointy things or noxious substances.

I bought a set of drawbar Shinkyo couplers from Mr. Sato (Nanyo Bussan) last Saturday for my Tobu 6050s. Tge car distance compared with Tomix TN couplers has been increased with 2mm, but looks much more realistic, as these cars are in fact connected by drawbars.

Unfortunately i could not find this product on the net, but it would be interesting to see how it works (connection, disconnection, etc.). On the other hand, the body mounted TN couplers have the advantage of allowing a 0 mm car distance, but that would require gangway connections on the cars, which this set seems to miss. (and many other Tomytec sets too, especially the wide gangways)

I was pleasantly surprised that I can use the Tomix 0336 TN coupler on the Greenmax 103 - I just happen to have some.  It used 14 couplers.  Here are a before and after picture, worth the extra $24 for the TN couplers.  Looks like it might not need gangways after all.
