What did you do on your layout today?

Don't worry, the Tomytec engineers are very competent. I got them to build most of my layout. That was a comment on the previous post. It may not make much sense because it went into the next page.

Anyway, this is my 1000th post in jnsforum!!!

I am taking a rest from ballast, so here are a few trees. I’m afraid I still don’t have enough.

While waiting for materials to finish the mountain I decided to lay out the small modules I d saved from the old layout.I had to chop them a bit to get them to fit.

I made a base the same size as the mountain top and the plan is to scenic everything in and fit all the lights etc then glue the whole thing to the top of the mountain and blend it in with scenic materials.

My slow progress continues. A bit more greenery. I didn't want this embankment to be to green. Due to its steepness. Next I need to get some trees.

The ballast can wait a bit till my signals turn up.

A bit more work to the mountain module.

glued the buildings etc in place and made the hills etc from anything I could find then sceniced everything in.

needs a bit more scenic work to finish it off, next to do is the lights then I ll glue the whole thing to the top of the mountain and blend the edges in with rocks and foliage.91BE3FD9-DF9F-4EF5-8C67-3226D4891A15.thumb.jpeg.4ce12d01319fd5cddc29cfc3ae36892c.jpeg64958490-0B37-4253-99E9-D3DA53012F22.thumb.jpeg.1aca2142c47d17e03e25edb021b6c19e.jpeg02147BEE-1EFB-42AA-AF9C-943876C7A6D3.thumb.jpeg.51affb9887aa898d84bbbe918bb2666e.jpeg

Looking GREAT!
I had a suggestion and....of course....feel free to ignore it! 🙂
I have a top section like this over my tunnel as well, but what I did was leave it removable to avoid having to root around for trains if they derailed. I used this Woodland scenic ground cover (( WOODLAND SCENICS F51 Foliage Light Green WOOU1351))  and dripped it over the edges of the seam so you don't see it. That way I can still lift it off. I've had to twice since I built it. hehehehe

Of course, this is a moot point if you have access to the tunnel through the back section there.   🙂

Great work!!!

I wasn't sure if you had this in mind, but I thought painting in perspective might be a cool way to go.

Well, I spent a silly amount of time painting some pipes yellow.

large.DSC_0016.jpg.f6fe302dc205aeb65b3003767d028a53.jpg

Nothing is glued down in the picture. The blue beams will hold to "I" beams with mobile to use for some special loads. Well, the blue beams won't be blue. They look too plasticky.

They will be brown oxide. I used the Tomix rail markers to do the job in 10min.

The "I" beams. Also painted with another of the Tomix markers.

That's the correct height for the loading docks. The chimney is a good solution for the corner. Also, I may finally glue down the background, although I would lose the chance of taking  photos from some cool angles.

Hi malco,

thanks for the advice buddy👍😀

it was always going to have a removable top until I started constructing it and realised I could access it all from the back which made life a lot easier when it came to building it 👍

Cut the card and cloth needed for a long thin hilly divide separating my main loop from the locomotive and coach yards.

It will look much nicer with ballast, trees, and bushes to conceal pins and joins, and I still need to decide how exactly to make the lake shore look... but already it feels much nicer in that corner of the layout.

Hello All!

I re-construct my T-trak crossing. Previously i use Tomytec set, but i want to a blinking one. So first i try to build a working one from the Tomytec kit. It's really ugly and not to handy for me. I bought Kato dummy set (20-027). It's a very good kit, Kato thinking to us, it's easy disassemble and install to LEDs, and it has very sharp paints and details:

First try with Tomytec, the problem is the very tiny parts, i use 0,4mm drill to the lights and use 0603 smd LED. But it was terrible.

20181018_195212(0).thumb.jpg.1a3b428b8d32d9ce3782c59be279b469.jpg

Next is the Kato: just snap out the backplate. The inside has a clear part, i cut the part bulb side and glued to the inside the bulb, and behint the bulb put to the smd led:

20190204_211931.thumb.jpg.2587c48a3bdc00e49021a48ddae86503.jpg20190204_211239.thumb.jpg.7d090121c5b00b12dec00a83c7470bb0.jpg

I attached the modul combined with the Tomytec barrier. The Kato barrier has shorter than the Tomytec. It's a little strange, the Tomytec sign was very little and according to the space was very limited, so i had to cut around the Kato signal stand, I'll working on more in the future, maybe make new barriers, more fit into the environment:

20190526_131136.thumb.jpg.194261e588b19236e5574069f4563462.jpg

Another update in the module the catenary cable to the ground, i use 0,4mm brass wire from Albion alloy, painted with medium rust:

Nice work Coromant! Are you driving it with an arduino? Going to automate the poles with a servo?

Hello again 🙂

Not today but not so far, i made platform lights to Shin-Kawasaki, i use LED stripe. Cut the modules and suit to under the platform roof:

20190203_114901.thumb.jpg.1a7262857feb82334a7c957ee66fe1b5.jpg

Tested:

20190203_121100.thumb.jpg.29508fc2937d2935061ac13820b20235.jpg

And at the module, the pictures i made absolute dark and the platform roof inside not painted yet, and use maximum voltage,

It's a little to bright 🙂

Next the platform got the drink automats from sankei, i made with lights inside, and also some passenger arrived:

Next the electrical engineers laid down cables:

Thanks Jeff!

Yes, I'm thinking about it and i made a prototype, but not working so good, i can't find the good position and contact with the barrier, It's need 90° pull, but i can't do more than ~45. The other problem the servo also not so good, I try some program, but none of them so smooth, so i have many learning about it 🙂

Yeah those don’t have the back arm to pivot off off. I guess a pivot wire like 5mm down the arm from the pivot point might work and make the hole for the wire a bit of a slot.

might look at the tiny stepper motors with a long worm gear track. They are cheap on ebay and slow and probably really smooth. Gives you a pure linear motion, not an arc like a servo arm. Downside is controlling the stepper motor but I’m sure done a lot out there with arduinos.

Cheers

Me again 🙂

Today it's a very beautiful sunday, so I walked around to Shin-Kawsaki 🙂

The nature has start to take possession to the station:

And the traffic also:

And arrived the E231the direction to Zushi station:

Oh, E217 to Tokyo station also arrived at Shin-Kawasaki:

Together at the south side of the Platform:

Bird View from the station area:

This is the state about Shin-Kawasaki at now. The sation area about 50% many little things need. The automats, building lights, the glassdoor to the building, fences, underground entrence next to the building etc.., and I really hope Tomytec re-release the taxi set hurry.

The vegetation is also just half of the whole module.

Today I made a test traffic lights with smd LEDs from Kato diotown traffic lights set. I try to add LEDs to the pedestrian lights and if i can do the whole project well. It will install to the staion area:

20190526_191139.thumb.jpg.67f734f4c5cfe2698f5086560459741c.jpg

So thats all i finish it today 🙂

Best regards,

Coromant

I saw on youtube a video the guy made the barrier moving with a little motor and gears, so i think also this will be the possible route for me.

My 1 week in 6 on call is round again. Between the phone calls. Got a bit more green down. Then swapped to blue to give the dividing wall a quick coat of sky.

These little guys are all in one, just need a 2phase stepper motor controller, sure there is a simple arduino shield for this.
