Dismantling of DE10, scenic train and other stock at Asahikawa

Browsing the internet, have just got back from India, I was surprised by a series of pictures on twitter and elsewhere of what apparently is the "Asahikawa operation office" where "dismantling of the vehicle was done" recently.

 

Appears to be a DE10 plus scenic trian carriages plus hoppers and presumably a lot of snowploughs to follow.

 

Can anyone enlighten me as to what is going on? Also what number was the DE10?

How is JR Hokkaido going to keep trains running when they scrap all their snowploughs? At least, it looks like that. Maybe they have still dozens more available, but considering the amount of snow that falls in Hokkaido, snowploughs are an absolute necessity.

That could be DE15 2527.  One DE10 with that livery (maybe there are others, not sure) was DE10 1660: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DE101660.jpg .  But DE10s don't have those 3 connection points for the russel head plows.  The DE15s do have them, and a DE15 in that livery is (was) 2527: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:JRH-DE15_2527.jpg .  I wonder if that scenic train carriage was the BBQ car.  Damned shame there .  Yakumo, do you still have the link to this blog entry?

I'm pretty sure they (ploughs) are just in the background contained in the same yard as where the dismantling is happening.

 

You can see the dismantling is a rare occurance as they are placing temporary sheeting down to stop any small metal parts falling into the ballast and sleeper areas.

 

It would make sense for old rusty Hoki 800s getting killed off as there would not be buyers available and the rail lines and maintenance amount is declining in Hokkaido.

Yes is look like the old Torroko engine and grill car.

The snow ploughs will be replaced with self-propelled types like the ATR 400r, they are cheaper to operate than the old ones that require old, clapped out diesel locomotives to power and push them around.

Looks like the Hoki's being scrapped are the low number cars with spoke wheels (3rd picture), the higher numbered cars with solid wheels are further back in the yard.
