Tomix Kumoni 83

Earlier this year Tomix announced a new model of the JNR Kumoni 83 EMU baggage/parcel vans:

Photos are from NGI's Picasa pages. These samples look very promising, I'm looking forward to these cars becoming available.

I have my eye on these too. Today I just bought at a dusty Nagoya hobby shop some BNIB but no longer in production Kato 165 series units (issued in 1998), unfortunately they are unpowered trailers. A powered kumoni 83 to pull that consist would fit the bill perfectly.

I think they've been released - saw a few on ebay while looking for N scale KuMoNis. Very lovely but there's no way I can justify one!

Yes, they have been released. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now. They're beautiful models too, as you would expect.

I'll second that on all accounts, and I have an unpowered trailer car on hold.

 

Nariichi tells me that the preprinted version of the Fuji Model MaNi 60 has been released, so it's a very good month for HO baggage cars. 

He had sent a stunning poster of this with an order, and it was enough to convince me.

Were these units also painted in the blue/white Yokosuka livery, or was that only the 83-800 subclass?

 

I've ordered the Greenmax N scale kit for one, and the photos only show Shonan livery. Did look on the link posted in the Kumoni 13 topic and there were some Yokosuka versions, but I couldn't tell whether they were a slightly different subclass. They didn't have the jumper sockets at the bottom edge of the cab fronts (which all the Shonan ones seemed to have).

 

Unless I'm misinterpreting the translation it seems that these units could work with both 1xx Series and earlier EMUs, by means of a switch to change the MU protocol.

I'm not familiar with whatever variations there were between classes, but Kato has issued a 83-100 in Lida colors.

I can see that the 100 has a sloping nose and a different window arrangement.

Jumper sockets seem to have differed between individual units, judging by those photos. Anyone know the best paint colour matches for the blue and ivory?
