Sam's first diorama attempt

Kiha66

Recommended Posts

Hello all!  I have been inspired by all the wonderful work that has been posted here over the past year, so while I have a few days off I am attempting to build a display of my own.  I figure that a small display is the best way to try my hand at learning how to actually build something other than a loop of unitrack.  I've really enjoyed the tiny layout modules (like http://space.geocities.jp/popoya2008/menu.html), so I hope to practice the process on this display.  Here is what I have so far.

Sam,

Excellent! Great way to learn how do do scenery stuff! Maybe even at sea! Keep at it!

Nice start! I can already start to imagine the Sea Side Liner Kiha66, the one on your avatar, on display there!

A quick trip to the local hobby shop today got me some ground cover.  I diluted white glue with water, painted it on and just sprinkled the ground foam over.  I'm pretty happy with the results although I wish I hadn't made the hill so tall, It seems kind of boring right now.  I'll try to add some bushes and shrubs tomorrow to make it more interesting.  Thanks for all the encouragement!

I also acquired yet another Kiha 66/67 pair (in JNR colors this time!), so I couldn't resist bringing that out as well.

Finished up the diorama today.  I added a retaining wall and some bushes to make the hillside more interesting, and I'm pretty happy with the results overall.
