Recommended Posts

I've recently discovered Tripadvisor. I learned of this store through other avenues but found the TA throguh a separate search to find a location for this store itself.

If you are visiting the Kansai area, the place to go for railway books would be Asahiya Bookstore in the Umeda district (JR Osaka Station is nearby).  The seventh floor is where the books are.  Not quite as large a selection as Shosen, but close.  They have more knick knacks and railwayana, though.  I was tempted to buy a speedometer taken from a scrapped kiha 58, but having no luggage space, gave up.

Also, should you be in the Tokyo area, but can't get to Shosen, a good alternative is the Junkudo bookstore in the Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott building.  The railway section on the eighth floor has perhaps 80% of the selection of Shosen, but the bookstore is located in a much more interesting section of the city, with better transport access.  Map:
