Crazy Auctions / Prices Thread

The 1500 USD is for the first release 700T. The more recent 700T release is much "cheaper".

Talking about crazy prices, I am very interested in getting a Thalys PBKA from KATO in new colors. Available for just 1100 Euro. https://www.ebay.de/itm/Kato-N-Scale-TGV-Thalys-PBKA-10-Car-Set-Model-Train-K10918-F28/273370863672?epid=3009237681&hash=item3fa62c5838:g:j2cAAOSwj3BbVrg5

Are the boxes of the first release different? It looks like there are printing of Taiwan High Speed Rail, while the 2nd release are only Green boxes? Cant be sure as I don't have both of them...

Some train sets just appreciate so much so fast... I reckon the Shikishima to be the same when it goes out of production... Or the Suica Penguin E2 for example...

With a lasercutter and some simple designs you could do a lot of interesting taller buildings like this. Always interest out there for taller buildings. The old atlas high rise kits (one of the only tall kits out there) go for silly prices these days.

What on earth is that?

It's sort of a little American inside joke. It's a play on Christmas/xmas-Hanukkah- Kwanza. It's the non-specific all-inclusive "Holliday" that we refer to when we say "Happy Hollidays".  I believe 'you guys' (if you still think of yourself as "English") just refer to the same period as "Christmas".

Its not the cost it’s the time. I wish I could get time for Xmas or jsut buy it! I realize the time it will require to jump into a lasercutter right now and the projects I would like to do and I have a very long list with much higher priorities right now (caregiving, house projects, etc) unfortunately. All my play time has to go into the club Ttrak module fabrication and finishing the fabrication stuff on the club layout that has to be done here (and even then right now I have the only space to set the layout up to work on it). I need to get my office and workroom totally redone to better work on projects like this.

did cross two biggies off the list of two dos, new car and tv purchased!

The lasercutter will happen. I keep hoping to slip in a little time on the silhouette cutter to play with ideas in the mean time on the small scale.

U

Cheers

Ah gotcha, my caffeine-deprived brain was trying to parse it as something Japanese/Asian and I was imagining it was some weird anime/manga or something.

I've been in Japan so long that Christmas is that annoying period of Jingle Bells on endless loops which comes to an abrupt end a week before New Year.

Haha yeah and that hideous long queue at KFCs running out of their chicken ~  🙂

Best is the original price tag of 7500 yen is still stuck on the box, to remind the buyer how much the price has increased?

But seriously, why? I don't get it at all...Maybe the Japanese really love their JNR trains?

All options much cheaper than 50K.

50,000 yen right now for this pre-1987 Kato 3 car KiHa 58 set !?

Well, looks like someone got what they wanted. If they're interested in some even earlier Kato stuff...

JPY 150,000 for this 6-car early 103 series: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/325939365

JPY 198,000 for this early C50: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/plymouth0120

JPY 160,000 for this early EF70:  https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f284076565

I think I've actually purchased from that seller before, albeit at normal 4-figure prices, and pretty sure I saw a similar EF70 recently for less than 10,000 yen.
