Here's a vid from Sankei News's channel of a training room at JR East's Mito Training Center.  Of course the training itself is good, but I really want that simulator :).  Looks like a very up-to-date driver's station.

It's these trainings that made Japan's rail what it is now. Professional and ability to deal with situations. The training itself is very good to have included emergencies such as rail road crossing accidents, since there are plently of rail road crossings in Japan... They even went to the length of training on how to deal with the injured!

 

* Though I think that red car driver is a complete idiot to cross the crossing like that....
