According to the latest post of Mr. Satoshi Takagi's blog, large number of former Toei 6000 series trains that operated by PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (although the trains are actually owned by the parent corporation, PT Kereta Api Indonesia) has been finally retired, with the cars being put in out-of-service condition at Depok train depot for a long time were began to be lifted from the track to a portion of land located to the west of depot just a few days ago.

Here are some photos from Mr. Takagi's blog:

I don't think all sets were retired yet.. The rakitan still in use for shunting.

Indeed that Rakitan is still employed as depot switcher, but what I mean is large amount of former Toei 6000 series cars has been retired from mainline services. Only the "mixed" 6181F that still remains, but currently it is not clear whether it has been permanently removed from service or still ready to operate, since I'm very busy with my college activities...

It seems that nearly all of Toei 6000 series cars (excluding 6181F and "Rakitan") have been finally removed from the track, along with "marked as scrapped" former Tokyu trains (some of 8039F cars and 8611F):

How much service did Jabodetabek get out of these?

Well, these trains already served from the days when KRL Jabodetabek was still under direct management of the national railways. There are several reasons why they were retired from mainline services:

1. Arrival of 205 series trains - this is one of the factor that contributes to the demise of these trains. These trains are especially replaced by former Yokohama Line 205 series trains, which are very suitable for lines that still running with 8-car trainsets (like Serpong Line, Bekasi Line, Tangerang Line and Loop Line)

2. Electrical problem - these trains suffered too many electrical problems, primarily "blown-up" main traction component and auxiliary power unit malfunctions*

3. Air conditioner problem - even many passengers complained to the operator about why the company still operated those "hell" train (yes, these trains are called as "hell" because these train regularly running with the air conditioner improperly adjusted or even malfunctioned, which means that the interior becomes very hot like in a sauna)

* note: auxiliary power unit that I mean in this reply is either motor generator (MG), DC-DC converter (DC-DC), or even static inverter (SIV)

Saw that in the news a few days ago.  Horrible story.

Are there any 205s left that the Indonesians haven't crashed?  They might have scrapped the 6000s too early.

Are there any 205s left that the Indonesians haven't crashed?  They might have scrapped the 6000s too early.

Actually, half of 205s are already experiencing themselves slamming into road vehicles (thanks to the road vehicles that are not having patience!), but most of them are still capable to be used on regular services (thanks to the "magical" hands of KCJ's Depok EMU depot)  :grin ...

...including HaE 15 and 32 that successfully saved and reformed as a single 8-car trainset (the other 12 cars, 5 from HaE 15 and 7 from HaE 32 are heavily damaged in the Juanda accident)  :grin

--------------------

Regarding whether Indonesians scrapped the 6000s too early or not, I think it is not so early - they're already labeled as "TSGO" (in Indonesian: "Tidak Siap Guna Operasi", literally means "unable to be used or operated on regular services") in the internal documents (as well as railfan's internal talks), because it already experienced too much component malfunctions - from air conditioner to the traction control itself. So the decision itself has been already thought for a long time, even before the 205 series train "attacks" the Jakarta's railroad tracks  :grin

..actually the Hitachi made EMU (1997) was in better situation when scrapped than the Toei 6000..

Many of us (Indonesians) thought that Hitachi-built EMUs (well, they are part of KL3-97xxx group, but of course in different sub-group than Holec ones, because as far as I know some of Holec EMUs are also numbered in the KL3-97xxx group) would receive refurbishment to bring them into better condition, but what we saw in the reality was completely different: scrapped (yes, thanks to the bad image of KL3 group :v)...

Today, former 6281F of Toei 6000 series (the last one to be delivered to Shimura Depot) has been towed to Depok EMU depot to be lifted off from the rail:

BTW, why the company decided to do face-lifts for Toei 6000 to be Rakitan, Espass and Lohan? personally I liked the original design and perhaps would be nice if the face was painted with JR205 style..

BTW, why the company decided to do face-lifts for Toei 6000 to be Rakitan, Espass and Lohan? personally I liked the original design and perhaps would be nice if the face was painted with JR205 style..

Because when the Toei 6000 series trains were reformed back in the pre-2005, there was a shortage of driving cars for the remaining intermediate cars, so Balai Yasa Manggarai decided to modify 6 of intermediate cars to become driving cars. Of the 6 modified cars, one of the end cars of Lohan was modified from M1 to Mc2 car, where the modification itself not only installing new driving cab and the driver panels, but also removing main traction control equipments and replacing them with compressor, as well as completely removing the pantograph...

But well, maybe you already know that Balai Yasa Manggarai's most unwanted modification of Toei 6000 series trains was the ones that received by KuMoHa 6151 of 6151F and KuMoHa 6188 of 6181F back in the 2009 (or 2010?), because the front end design was way too ugly (and even resembles something that is forbidden to be said here)..

While they received the new cab, they are actually just having their original cab replaced with a new ones, since the original cab was heavily destroyed in the accident (6151F slams to the rear end of Holec near Kebon Pedes village, while 6181F hits the rearmost flatcar of Babarandek train at Kampung Bandan station)...

EDIT: in this post, I used some of local railfan's terms, which are:

1. Babarandek: coal train that runs from Cigading Station (located at the western coast of Java Island) to Bekasi Station

2. Balai Yasa: the official term of Indonesian Railways for naming their workshops

Wow, thanks so much for the detailed information Suronefu-san.. didn't know if the end cars on some trains having shortage issue and this resulted extreme modifications for the intermediate cars... Was there any explanation on the cause of shortage during reformed process?

I also wonder why they put three different designs if one design with best modification results is enough rather than having some other designs. From railfans perspective of course it would be nice to see some new modified models, but from operational cost of Balai Yasa, this would be less efficient..

Was there any explanation on the cause of shortage during reformed process?

Honestly, we could say that the number of intermediate cars are actually enough for creating 8-car trainsets (as I've remembered, Divisi Jabotabek was firstly attempting to operate all of Toei 6000 trains as 8-car trainsets). But it seems that the platform length was the ones that caused Divisi Jabotabek to reform these trains again, with only 6121F, 6161F and 6171F that permanently reformed into 8-car trainsets. The others are still 6-car trainsets (including the unique 6271F and 6281F).

The cars that shipped to Indonesia are (classified based on the original trainsets during their days in Toei Subway):

1. 6121F - 6121, 6122, 6125, 6126, 6127, 6128

2. 6151F - 6151, 6152, 6155, 6156, 6157, 6158

3. 6161F - 6161, 6162, 6165, 6166, 6167, 6168

4. 6171F - 6171, 6172, 6175, 6176, 6177, 6178

5. 6181F - 6181, 6182, 6185, 6186, 6187, 6188

6. 6191F - 6192, 6195, 6197 (only intermediate cars, driving cars and one intermediate car went to Chichibu Railway)

7. 6201F - 6201, 6202, 6205, 6206, 6207, 6208

8. 6211F - 6212, 6215, 6216, 6217 (only intermediate cars, driving cars went to Kumamoto Dentetsu)

9. 6221F - 6222, 6225, 6226, 6227 (only intermediate cars, driving cars went to Kumamoto Dentetsu)

10. 6231F - 6232, 6235, 6236, 6237 (only intermediate cars, driving cars went to Kumamoto Dentetsu)

11. 6241F - 6242, 6245, 6247 (only intermediate cars, driving cars and one intermediate car went to Chichibu Railway)

12. 6251F - 6252, 6255, 6257 (only intermediate cars, driving cars and one intermediate car went to Chichibu Railway)

13. 6261F - 6262, 6265, 6267 (only intermediate cars, driving cars and one intermediate car went to Chichibu Railway)

14. 6271F - 6271, 6272, 6275, 6276, 6277, 6278

15. 6281F - 6281, 6282, 6285, 6286, 6287, 6288

When the formation was changed, there is a group of surplus intermediate cars that does not have driving cars to be coupled with them. Strangely enough, they are not inserted into other trainsets, which means that large number of Toei 6000 trainsets operated by Divisi Jabotabek are running as 6-car formations. But due to shortage of trains that needed by Express services, Balai Yasa Manggarai was ordered by Divisi Jabotabek to modify 6 of those surplus cars to become driving cars.

I can't explain further about this, since the problem is too complex to be explained here (^^);

I also wonder why they put three different designs if one design with best modification results is enough rather than having some other designs. From railfans perspective of course it would be nice to see some new modified models, but from operational cost of Balai Yasa, this would be less efficient..

Well, this is something strange that I can't explain here. From my perspective, the most suitable one would be "Espass" design, because the front end design is suitable for streamlined-style front end... Lohan's front end design is a bit too strange for me, while Rakitan's front end is simply just putting Hitachi's front end design over the former intermediate gangway (which is the same quality with JR West's 419 series, known as Bread Train or 食パン電車)  :grin

Slightly related to the Toei 6000 series:

KAI's 103 series trains are finally retired from service due to aging equipments
