Gi'day,

Currently living in Moonlight (10km north of Blackball) on the South Island's We(s)t Coast. Still consider myself a novice as far as model railways are concerned and have been dabbling with NZ120 since the mid 1990s. Recently discovered On30 and Garden Railways and am now contemplating building a small, portable (it really does rain a lot here!!!), Japanese On30 narrow gauge Garden Railway inspired by Matthew Foster's Takasaki Light Railway (https://www.facebook.com/TakasakiLightRailway).

Current (and only) motive power is an On30 Bachmann 0-4-2 Porter to be fitted out with a Backwoods Miniatures side tank kit and a Banta Modelworks all-weather cab to give the outline appearance of locomotive #3, an 0-6-0 Porter which worked the Senpoku Light Railway (Kogata to Ishinomaki). Rolling stock to date consists of 3 mineral/clay tippler wagons, but the recent chance discovery of "Narrow Japan" means a Kiso caboose, a Passenger/Freight van and various flatcars will stretch the wallet somewhat further.

This layout will most probably be freelanced with several small cottage industries to service: a tile and pottery kiln and a sake brewery as well as a halt and terminus. The real challenge will be the garden aspect and I am currently researching classical Japanese garden design (no, there will be no stone lanterns or vermillion humpback bridges!).

Look forward to being a member of the fora and learning from fellow contributors.

Regards,

Dorian
