  1. Umekoji roundhouse, which now has the Kyoto Railway Museum around it, in 1946. Nice footage. A different location is depicted around 5:28, the video description says it may be the Keio Inokashira Line. Definitely not Kyoto Station :). Although I was wondering if it was Hankyu Arashiyama, that's a two-track physical terminus.
  2. Lately I have been looking into modelling (parts of) the Suigun Line. In recent days, there have been plenty of runs with steam locomotives of the C11, C56, C58 and C61 series. However, I am having trouble finding information about what steam locomotives exactly ran on this railway line back in the days when steam trains still ran in actual service. The Japanese Wikipedia article on the Suigun Line mentions that until 1960 the 8700 type and 8620 type steam locomotives towed both passenger and freight trains on this line after which they were replaced by DD13 type diesels. Since I am much more interested in C series steam locomotives, especially the C11 and C56, I am wondering whether these ran on this line as well back in the day. I have been looking all over the Japanese internet, but I just can't seem to find affirmation that they did, if they did at all. Does any of you have better Google search skills or a better view on this subject?

    N Scale - Steam Numberplates

I am interested in specific steam era Japanese n scale number plates. In particular, I would like to get a numberplate for D51 4, which I will be converting a D51 slug version to. There are others but this would be a really good start.
  4. NHK's Shin-Nihon Kikou. First aired July 25th, 1979.
  5. Interesting video, serious looking components. Where does a binder bolt go?
  6. Here are two good videos of an open day sort of event at Umekoji. Ayokoi's video features a still image of an informational panel with some English before showing the engine itself. Karibajct's video has some scenes inside the roundhouse, filmed from on top of something about as tall as a locomotive or tender, it's an interesting view of the interior. by ayokoi by karibajct

  8. JR East's factory at Niitsu has turned out a green car for use with the SL Ban'etsu Monogatari steam excursion. Its first run will be this Saturday April 6. It is based on SUHAFU 12-102. They've also got a pdf available http://www.jrniigata.co.jp/press/20130124sl4-9-g.pdf with some artist's renderings of the interior. I'm looking forward to some photos and video of the real thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Banetsu_Monogatari_SuRoFu_12_102_Niigata_20130406.jpg
