  1. Sunday Feb. 21 saw the introduction in regular service of the Tokyo Metro 17000 series. These will be used on the Yurakucho and Fukutoshin Lines. These are planned to replace the remaining 7000 series trainsets by 2022. Media report: Railfan video, including a ride to Wakoshi:
  2. It will be designated the 500 series. Eight 3 car sets will be built by KHI. Features include full active suspension on all cars and permanent magnet synchronous motors. The three car sets will be designed to couple/uncouple en route with other three car sets to expand/shrink consists depending on passenger demand and service patterns. Introduction scheduled for spring 2017.   3. Sanyo Dentetsu will introduce new rolling stock within the fiscal year, the first new units in 15 years. Designated the 6000 series, the aluminum-bodied rolling stock will consist of a total of 6 units, in 3 two-car formations. They will be capable of being used on both local services and incorporated in direct limited express rakes. The carriages will be 18.9m long, equipped with VVVF inverters, LED lighting, fully enclosed PMSM motors, and interestingly, a braking system that prevents flats on wheelsets.   4. Saw this non-consumer product Toshiba CM on TV tonight. There are two versions, a general version and a version for Kansai. Products include pmsm motors, hd300 hybrid loco, and passenger information displays. General version: Kansai version (this version uses Hankyu 1000 series rather than Tokyo Metro 1000 series):
