12-car formations, bi-level green cars on Chuo Line in 2023 (was 2020)
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
Just caught this on Ompuchaneru (http://rail-uploader.khz-net.com/index.php?id=37663)... Work will start this year to prepare for the inclusion of 2 bi-level green cars in Chuo Rapid Line and Ome Line train formations. Additionally, the trains will be lengthened to 12-car formations. Based on the pdf, the bi-level green cars will be the familiar cars we see now in other Tokyo-area JRE consists. The service is planned to begin in 2020. This involves more than just building the cars; they'll have to improve stations, lines, signalling, and depots. A little green car history from the pdf: May 1969 - First-class cars on the Tokaido and Yokosuka lines are changed to "green cars" October 1980 - Green cars appear on the Sobu Line when the line's connection to and direct services with the Yokosuka Line begin March 1989 - Bi-level cars are added to Tokaido Line trains March 1990 - Bi-level cars are added to Yokosuka/Sobu Line trains July 2004 - Bi-level cars are added to Utsunomiya/Takasaki Line trains (which operate as locals until October) October 2004 - Bi-level cars are added to Shonan-Shinjuku Line trains January 2007 - Bi-level cars are added to mid-distance Joban Line trains (which operate as locals until March) JR East pdf: http://www.jreast.co.jp/press/2014/20150203.pdf -

bikkuri bahn posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
For forumers living in Japan, just a note that this Friday's late night Tamori Club (TV Asahi 12:20am~) episode will feature Sotetsu and the upcoming run through operation with JR East. Appears to be a two part feature, so the second half episode likely will be next week.- 3 replies

Sotetsu through running testing at Nishiya
bikkuri bahn posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
Video by Ayokoi, testing at Nishiya, junction of the Sotetsu Main Line and the connection to the JR Freight Line at Hazawa. Nishiya has a set of layover tracks for terminating services. Once through-running services begin in November, all services (not just locals) will stop at this station. Sotetsu also recently had a press release detailing the service pattern for this new line. Trains will run from Ebina to Shinjuku (4 per hour at peak). A few will continue on in the direction of Omiya (details TBD) https://www.sotetsu.co.jp/news_release/pdf/190716_01.pdf -

Scheduled to be operational/open 11/30 this year, presumably in conjunction with the autumn timetable revision. -

For those of you like rare equipment, here's JR East's latest KIYA type, a long rail carrier numbered E195. The cab is similar to or the same as some of JR Central's work trains, but that gear behind the cab is odd. A diesel/generator? It and some new KOKI cars were transported from Nippon Sharyo's factory in Toyokawa, Aichi on October 31. by The Dramatic 中央本線。

New rolling stock for Yamanote Line- 235 series
bikkuri bahn posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
Spotted over at SSC, from a post by Sr. Horn. It will be called the 235 series. Introduction in autumn of 2015. The trains will use either hybrid or full silicon carbide inverters, replacing the silicon inverters used on previous designs. Instead of TIMS, a new system developed by JR East, called INTEROS, will be installed, offering 10x faster transmission speed. http://www.jreast.co.jp/press/2014/20140701.pdf- 234 replies

651 series "Super Hitachi" revival to Yokohama May 30
bikkuri bahn posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
JR East, in commemoration with the 156th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port, is running a special train using the 651 series on May 30th from Mito to Ishikawacho Station in Yokohama and return. The train will use the Ueno-Tokyo Line and traverse the normally freight-only Takashima freight line between Tsurumi and Sakuragicho. It'll be interesting to see where the 651 series trainset will be stabled after dropping off its passengers at Ishikawacho Station before its return trip to Mito (Negishi Station sidings?) JR East's new battery electric multiple unit model on its way from Hitachi's Kasado factory to JRE territory. I wonder if JR Kyushu owns any rights to that carbody design. No good YT vids of it stopped anywhere yet. by Masaharu Aono by KENKENKAICHO by yuuya0381 at Okayama, lots of cabinets (batteries?) under the blue car by cookie 99 at Shin-Kurashiki, viewing the opposite side as the video above.
