    Indoctrinating children

Very trainy weekend here. Trip to Ferrymead, our local heritage Park, with stream trains, double decker tram and ducks all being studied in equal detail. Then this morning we repeatedly managed to re-rail the gronk! The tram-track is really great for learning on, and when it gets a bit much food in it you can just wash it in the sink :)

    Indoctrinating children

Yep, little GraFar class 08 that I picked up for a song as it was coated in super glue and not running. Little TLC and it works fine! It won't go around r103 curves but has done many hours in r140 without a complaint. Good wee engines, quite tolerant of the the little monster's abuse lol. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

    Indoctrinating children

Allow me to introduce our little bundle of mischief, Freya. She likes cats, dogs, and trains, and can say "meow", "woof-woof", "train" and "plane". She loves visiting me at work, but heaven forbid if I don't have a train video lined up for her! She has two Tomix loops set up around the house, and my crowning achievement so far has been a loop of tram track on the dinner table — no meal is compete without a tram trundling around, and it better be moving it else! I've made her a food-proof controller with speed and direction controls, and at 14 months she is surprisingly good at changing direction and adjusting the speed. Glad I'm not one of the mini people riding the tram though, the direction changes are brutal! I've been impressed by the washability of tram track, though it does need daily cleaning lol. I think we're off to a good start! PS: the dad in me thinks it should be "indoctrainating", aren't bad puns part of the job description? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Using a DCC decoder to power a length of track

I've done it, I had a switch before the track that selected straight DCC, or connected the tracks to the output of a spare decoder. That way I could switch between DC and DCC trains for my small railway. Worked well enough, was easier and cheaper than wiring in decoders for every loco. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

    Live video stream of Tokyo

Tuned in at 3am Japan time today and the place was crawling with workers. The AGT line had a strange maintenance machine working in one spot, and people all up and down the line with torches checking things out, while the Shinkansen line had lots of people with torches inspecting stuff. I've seen this talked about on Japan Railway Journal, but never witnessed it "in person" before. Always go in Tokyo!

  7. Another live stream has popped up on YouTube, I think this is one of my favourites (though I'll always have a soft spot for the Hakata Station Now stream). It has: Yurikamome "monorail" (actually an AGT – automated guideway transit) Tokaido Shinkansen Yamanote Line Keihin Tohoku Line Tokaido Line Ueno Tokyo Line Sky scrapers Good sound! Super crisp picture 4 hour rewinding Lots of traffic Only took me a few minutes of watching before I caught a Shinkansen, monorail, and regular commuter train all on screen at the same time. Snap just happened again. PS: Is it time we created a sticky thread with links to all the JR live cams?
  8. Would someone with episode 38 be able to repost it for my collection pretty pretty please? Now that I have a 1 year old I'm not quite as quick to download as I should be :(
  9. A complete list of JRJ episodes can be found on The TVDB at https://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=seasonall&id=304739&lid=7 There are a few of us that maintain the list, taking the details from the NHK website. I usually add episode details to the DB as I download the shows from Lee, that way when I import the show to my media centre it automatically picks up all the show details, thumbnail, synopsis etc. Keep up the good work Lee, hugely appreciate the efforts here in NZ.

Narrow Gauge Magazine on a CD

Thanks for mentioning Voie Libre, what a great magazine! I too have now subscribed, and discovered that they also publish digitally in English through Zinio. I can now lie on the couch and get all sorts of quirky inspiration on my iPad, and older Voie Libre back issues on Zinio are only $1 each!
  11. Sure, I've uploaded number 13 to my drive, same link as above.

    A bit too much snow...

Fantastic photos, thanks for finding and sharing those. Amazing to still be getting snow of that magnitude so late in the season. And as for the LKAB team, wow, tough work, I can only imagine what their appetites are like lol. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
